Gary Barta everybody

I have many friends in the ISU band, and their director told them that the rumor that an IU band member was pushed and broke their ribs, is 100% false. That information was gained as part of reported conversation between the two band directors that happened after the game.

An Iowa band member did break their ribs; they fell down the stadium stairs (not pushed), and landed on their bass drum. That sucks for that individual, but the foul-play associated with it is 100% false.

It's actually pretty amazing how predictable the comments are over there...

From that linked thread. This sounds plausible but not that serious to me.

Child in band. The band is meeting with Athletic Dept reps at tomorrow's rehearsal to provide more info. From what she saw (and told me yesterday) A). one Iowa Band TA was slapped by a female ISU fan when fan was asked not to cut through the band while they're marching (lady was trying to go infront of percussion which is not smart. B..After the game, the band went on the field to line up to march back to buses This is what they were told to do by ISU staff. When on field and ISU Athletics employee got in the HMB director's face and told him to "get his f***ing band of the field. Band director explained situation. Employee yelled he didn't care, get f'in band off field. Director ended up taking picture of employee to make report. Got apology email from person before band made it to IC. Another TA (female) was evidently shoved into band while carrying ladder. Also beer cans were shaken opened and rolled under the band while they were marching to spray beer on the members and trip them as they marched. Child said also standard drunk student stuff, but the above stuff was done by adults. Band has been asked not to speak with media until after this is over...

OMG.... seriously? This had better be something really bad.

I should let JP know about how I've been treated over the past decade while attending Iowa games in Kinnick, right? Full beer cans thrown at my head for example.

And I hope ISU's band also lets JP know how they are treated too at Kinnick. I've heard some really bad stories there too from kids that I know were in ISU's band.[/Q}

Go to DM Register's facebook page and read comments from real people. Several ISU folks chiming in about past treatment in Iowa City. And the U of Iowa band last Saturday chanting "F-U ISU!!" to fans before and after the game

Below are the knee-jerk headlines today by the Hawkeye shill--the CR Gazette..... pathetic!

I swear 75% people only read the headlines anymore--which is what the media caters to

That is annoying when the whole freaking band is moving through the concourse. I got yelled by our own band Saturday for sneaking through the brass section. If anything I was probably the one that needed slapped. But I had to piss so freaking bad...

Of course, since now the U of I has a vested interest in controlling what gets out. Barta can have "concerned parents" make unsubstantiated claims to the media in a controlled fashion.

But they should have been asked to speak to law enforcement while the alleged incident(s) was/were still fresh (as in right after it happened). It is clear that the protection of band members is absolutely NOT what is driving the boat in Iowa City.

I remember well how an investigation went in Iowa City where members of the athletic department tried to "investigate" a crime...

Great Day to be a Hawkeye.jpg

The above eventually happened despite their best efforts to protect a perp. The U of I athletic department should have zero credibility with anyone not wearing black and gold glasses when it comes to investigating anything.

Yes, I know these are all Captain Obvious observations, but what ridiculousness!

Sorry but I wouldn't believe anything you read over there... IMO the fact that there has been NOTHING out on social media is pretty telling.

JFC, that better not be everything... No wonder there has not yet been anything official. They're probably still trying to gather a count on number of "Iowa Sucks" chants, bird flips, and "na na na na boo boos".

I wonder what else there is to this part of the story:

one Iowa Band TA was slapped by a female ISU fan when fan was asked not to cut through the band while they're marching

There could be a lot more to it than politely asking someone to stay away from the band and getting slapped.

Yeah what did the TA say to the ISU fan. Was it just hey please don't? Could have been a drunk fan but it feels like there is more.
