At this time last year, Steele was still fighting the turnover bug and we had a defense that stepped up big when their number was called. Two big differences I see is that Jantz has improved his completion percentage by around 20 points, and we haven't had to come from behind in the second half yet this year. Instead of needing heroics, we're getting up early & "coasting" to the finish.
But to me, the most positive comparison between the UConn game last year and the Western Illinois game this year is that we didn't lose a vital starter in this game. When he went down last year, we struggled for a couple weeks until we found our rhythm again. Hopefully, we won't stall in the crucial games coming up and we can build our momentum as the season goes on.
Jantz? Yeah, I know he went down with a twisted drumstick in the UConn game, but I'm referring to the player who's our MVP game in & game out: Cy the Mascot.
