Future thanksgiving tournaments

Kinda meh tourney for me. The line up is mediocre and the city is worse than mediocre.

Thankfully nobody is going to fly to Orlando for Orlando. Not even sure why ESPN bothers to put "Orlando" in the name. This event is hosted at Disney World.

Update: Apparently ESPN did recently remove "Orlando" from the official event name.

"Hey kids, wanna go to Orlando for Thanksgiving?" "Shut up, Dad."
"Hey kids, wanna go to Disney World for Thanksgiving? "Hell yes."

My initial read on the high major teams...

Virginia Tech has been consistently good under Mike White. Their best players are sophomore guard Sean Pedulla and former ISU transfer target Grant Basile (Covid year option next season). I would pencil them (or us) in as the favorites.

Penn State has played well this year but they are a super old roster. 5 of their top 6 players are Covid seniors. Will be tough to project how good they will be next season.

Butler is trending up under Thad Matta.

Texas A&M is yet to make the tournament under Buzz Williams. They entered the year a fringe top 25 team and took a bad loss to Steve Prohm and Murray St in their MTE.

Pairings/bracket/seeding too far out to be determined, going to base a lot on this season's results. I could estimate something similar to this:

1 Virginia Tech
8 (MAAC team TBD)
4 Penn State
5 Butler
3 Texas A&M
6 Boise State
2 Iowa State
7 VCU

But, on the bright side, we should be very competitive. I'd say us and Butler would compete for it. But a lot could change between now and then.
I think VA Tech would like a word. They're 10-1 and ranked this week. Only loss is by two to a very good Charleston team whose only loss is to North Carolina.

VA Tech has wins over North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Dayton, Minnesota, and Penn State already this year. I'd say they are just as likely to be the favorite in this tourney than anyone else next year.

I dont mind this field tbh. Its not a PKI, Maui, or B4A but all those programs minus Penn State and the Maac team(unless its Iona) are decent at minimum. We've for sure competed in worse fields
