Friday OT - Musica Obscura

What is a band or song that is somewhat obscure that you enjoy?

I found a band several years back called Republican Hair (now Hey Steve). I sought them out and caught a live show when they opened for Cadillac Three a few years back in Iowa City, and it was everything I hoped for.

The lead singer, Luke ****, is a songwriter for Cadillac Three, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church. But the band plays stuff that is nothing like all that:

Maybe not obscure (that is my wife's specialty, she has about 3000 cds and I've only heard of about half the bands), but I'll keep beating this drum forever. They should be way bigger than they've been, and I don't get it.

This is not directly on topic, but I recently made my kids listen to some of the music I listened to in high school like System of a Down, Deftones, etc. and they were absolutely appalled.

Had a friend that was big into this band and I actually heard them play in a small bar in Eau Claire, WI.
I have both of their albums on CD somewhere in a box, but unfortunately they aren't on Apple Music.

This band opened up for Built to Spill last time they toured in Iowa, and they were super fun to watch.

My wife (then girlfriend) talked me into going to their concert in Omaha, which was in the basement of a church or an old community building or something, and it was awesome.

This is not directly on topic, but I recently made my kids listen to some of the music I listened to in high school like System of a Down, Deftones, etc. and they were absolutely appalled.

My son's 25 now and just "discovered" 80's music, so this has been my moment lol. Funny turn from the death metal stuff he usually listens to.

I've got two that are completely different from one another:

1) Jesse Rice - who makes his living primarily as a song writer in Nashville has released a series of albums called the Pirate Sessions which I love:



2) Alestorm - They're from a Scottish Band from a genre called Norwegian Pirate Metal. What more is there to say? Definitely NSFW:

They have such a great sound, so throwback but cool. I think you first recommended them around 2008 or so, and we have enjoyed them since!

I LOVE Black Joe Lewis!! We saw him down at Wooly’s pre-pandemic. My husband described him as sort of a sweary Wilson Pickett, and I love it.

Constantly introducing my son to classic rock of all types. He always digs deeper than I ever did and surprises me every time. The latest is Jim Croce and he keeps digging up a few tracks that I have never heard.
