Friday OT: Leaving on a jet plane

Global Entry is the unsung hero of air travel. It has saved us from missing connections so many times, and TSA Precheck is bliss.
Because of Global Entry and Precheck I made it from getting off the plane in the international arrivals, through customs and border, out of baggage claim, up to a train, over to another terminal, back through domestic security, and made it onto the plane in 22min at OHARE!

Curious:
1. occupation? (if you don't mind sharing)
2. what app is that with your flight history?
IT Consulting with various differences of tech and occupation. Now a Cyber Architect

It’s called myFlightRadar24 - https://my.flightradar24.com/

I just like the interface the most but there’s also OpenFlights and FlightMemory. The big catch? It’s all manual baby

I hope you have a Amex Platinum or similar. That's some serious travel.
Is this a call back to a thread like 7 years ago with me asking about the Platinum and everyone just shitting on me? :jimlad:

I used to be heavy into card churning but the pandemic made it not worth it to me anymore. Though I’ve been thinking about picking it back up again.

We're the type of people who over pack and over prepare for everything. Especially when the kids were younger, we'd have our entire SUV "trunk" full for a one night trip. It's a little better now, but I'm still tempted to bring my snow gear when we're visiting family in Iowa in July.

So, yes, we pack days in advance. I have my toiletry bag full with my "travel" stuff, so I really just have to grab it and go. I also have separate phone changing packs that just go directly in the suitcases.

I don't remember that one. I hope it wasn't me

I just found the post and I apologize now. I didn't know any better. It was before I knew anything about churning.

We bring a Sonos roam with us now whenever we go on a trip. USBC charger, it's really small, wifi/Bluetooth, withstands water well.

Ours is named “Roam If You Want To.” Do you name yours?

EXACTLY!! There was a line in Denver at customs this past April that had to be 600 people deep. It was legitimately crazy. We did not have to wait for a single thing, and even got our own security line to check back in.

No. I should name it Cagey because it goes with me on the bike a lot in my water bottle cage.
What I'll do is slip a koozie over it and then it fits in one of my 2 cages perfectly.

This has been a lifesaver for us when traveling internationally. It doesn't just change the outlet shape, it steps down the voltage. It's very light-weight and comes with a small drawstring pouch. We have yet to come across an outlet that we couldn't plug into with this converter.

And keeps from rattling around - smart!

Growing up- Annual MN Family Fishing Trip/Family Reunion- Leave on a Saturday AM.
The week prior, the Dinning room table became the Vacation drop zone. (Rafts, games, snacks, hats, etc).
If it was on the table, it would be packed in some manner. If not on the table....sol.

Weds- Wash all clothes in the house, and mow the yard.
Thur- Pack all suit cases, and have them lined up by the Table by 9AM Friday Morning.
Friday- Vehicle gets all packed at 4:30PM-ish. That way, we could eat supper, shower up, and get to bed a decent time.
Saturday AM, Pack the cooler in the vehicle. Mom's purse and maybe one more grocery bag of odds/ends.
Blast Off.

That was just what we did, and we all assumed it was kinda "the norm". We were never rushed to pack the night before, nor was there much stress, etc.

Spouse's family was more of the last minute, pack it all in the morning type.

Current Day: now we run around like chickens with their heads cut-off, packing until Midnight on the Night before.........

I generally pack last minute. I'll do it the night before if I have to get up before sunrise to catch a flight or something. If I pack early, inevitably I end up rummaging through the bag looking for things I still need before I leave, so it doesn't make sense to do much until I absolutely have to. Usually my vacations end up being to the same place where I know I will have a washer & dryer, so I don't have to bring clean clothes for every single day. I can do a load of laundry late one night and not interrupt anything I would be doing otherwise. I hate buying extra stuff if I don't need it, so I tend to haul a lot of other stuff with me (like morning ritual, hygiene, etc). But I have room for it all, usually.

Have to start about a week ahead for diabetes supplies. CGM gets changed every seven days but an extra is needed because it gets caught on things. Insurance only allows a month at a time so may not have extra. Insulin pumps site changes every three days and insulin must be kept cold. Yup it’s easier to stay home.
