Thanks so much to @RunninMan for throwing in a suggestion!

When are some instances you felt like you were in your own version of the Truman Show? How do you know for sure your phone/Alexa/whatever is listening to you - what are the most pointed ads you've mysteriously received after talking about something?

Well, we are in The Matrix after all.

I got a new puppy a year or so ago and the wife and I were talking about the items we needed to buy. An electronic training collar was high on my list as I am going to use this dog for pheasant hunting. So we talked about the various price points and features. My wife picks up her phone and opens FB....no **** there is an ad for a ******* Garmin training collar on there after 1 scroll.

My mother has been having issues as of late with low blood oxygen levels. I have been talking to a couple of guys at work about it. I have not searched anything on this stuff and the only stuff on this on my phone would have been a text message from my sister and a phone conversation with another sister and today this popped up in my facebook feed.

I felt like I was in the Truman Show for years after watching the Truman Show. That movie freaked me out when I saw it in my early teens.

I never saw the movie but when I was maybe 10 or so I got it in my head that the whole world was kind of being created and torn down as I moved around in it. And that all the people I knew, were part of the set-up. Just all to see what I would do in any situation. And that maybe I had actually died a couple times but they just created a new world just like the old one and put the reincarnated me in it.

I didn't ever really think that was true, but I often thought about the possibilities.

Definitely when I google something, and then do a search related to it. Typically what I'm even thinking about fills the search bar before I even type two letters.

I haven't had that exact line of thought, but it's close to something I might have conjured. Similar enough I can relate to what you're describing.

Cool topic. I like the philosophical concepts the movie adapts -- Descartes is probably a major source.

Digital-target experience happens time to time, can't nail down specific examples, it's sometimes fascinating and occasionally unsettling in a Big Brother type of way.

Generally speaking, I'm sure I've had situations when it was like being filmed or documented, but it isn't a frequent feeling and probably would take some thought to find examples.
