My husband and I were watching Severance on Apple TV last night (if you haven't seen it and like sort of sci fi-ish, dark dramas, it's great). He mentioned that he had read an article recently about how Amazon Prime is sort of losing the streaming war between the really big guns, that HBO Plus is incredibly successful, and so on.

What streaming services do you use? What are your shows you love on each?

Here's what we've got - we don't watch a ton of TV, but we'll watch an episode of something after the kids go to bed usually to systematically get through a series:

Apple TV - Severance, Ted Lasso, Morning Show. We thought The After Party was fun.

Amazon Prime - only have the one that comes with our Amazon subscription. Husband watched Wheel of Time and The Boys, I know I need to see Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I've watched some of their movies and documentaries, but I can't think of any series offhand?

Hulu (packaged with Disney+ for the kids) - Only Murders In the Building, several documentary series, I watched the Tommy Lee & Pamela series (I'm ashamed to admit). The Great is on my to-watch list.

Netflix - BoJack, Russian Doll, Mindhunter, Queen's Gambit, Big Mouth, Ozark, I watch The Crown and Master of None, husband watches The Witcher.

We have also seen Succession but don't subscribe to HBO Plus, and Barry is on my list to watch. I heard that True Detective is coming out with a third season - we watched the first two when they originally came out.

I don't know the last time I've watched any actual channels of TV. I record a couple of PBS British dramas, I guess, but that's it.

Do you use streaming services? If so - what is your list?

We have Amazon, Netflix, Disney + and HBO Max.

Amazon: Goliath, Wheel of Time, anxiously awaiting Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power

Netflix: Ozark, Midnight Mass, The Walking Dead (we just started the series in the last 6 months and are now caught up). Stranger Things whenever the next one drops

HBO: Currently watching Sharp Objects. Anxiously awaiting House of Dragons. We've watched True Detective too, so we'll watch the next one when it comes out.

We don't have Showtime, but my son has been talking up Your Honor with Bryan Cranston

We watched the first couple of seasons of Stranger Things, but I don't love the horror genre overall (I get more freaked out than an adult should), so we stopped. Sharp Objects is great - Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson are fantastic. Have you watched Big Little Lies? The first season is especially good.

I never finished it, I think I watched 8 of the 10 episodes and decided enough is enough of this junk.

I'm usually a completionist, and feel like I have to finish what I start. But I watched about three episodes of "You" on Netflix, and had to stop. It was good enough, but giving me anxiety.

Paramount + - Subscribed just for the 1883 show since we are big Yellowstone fans but probably going to keep it as there are a lot of movies and other original content on it and Taylor Sheridan announced a bunch of new shows that will be dropping on it in the future that look good. Trying to get into the Mayor of Kingstown but so far after a few episodes its been hard to follow the storylines I think so the jury is still out on that one for me.

Netflix - finally got a subscription during the pandemic plus my wife is hooked on The Crown. We binge watched all of Longmire and The Ranch amongst other stuff we found. Tried to get into $chitt's Creek as several people told us it was good but I think we are into season 3 now and have pretty much given up on it as it just seems really dumb. Held onto this one too because now the kids have found movies and shows they want to watch.

Amazon Prime - nothing in particular we regularly watch but do take advantage of the free stuff that comes with the subscription

Hulu & Disney + - we we share a logon with my brother's family. Mostly watch kid's stuff with it or an occasional movie

ESPN + - got a lot more use out of this during basketball season than I ever have previously. Now starting to dig around at other content on it and think I will start watching more of Peyton's Places

I usually am as well, it just wasn't worth it to watch 2 more episodes

We have not. We'll have to add that to our list. Another one I hadn't mentioned is Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu. Not sure what I thought of that. Weird, but interesting.

Hulu w/Live TV, Disney & ESPN+; Apple TV; HBO Max; Netflix; and I think Amazon Prime(?). Most of these are for wifey and daughters. I mainly just use Hulu and Netflix. We just finished season 4 of Ozark, and I'm trying to get wifey to commit to Peaky Blinders. We are planning on watching Ted Lasso on Apple. And I'll use HBO Max for Hard Knocks. Also use Plex every now and then for movies.

YouTube TV, Netflix and ESPN+ (which reminds me I need to cancel...). We can pretty well get by with that just that in my household.

Netflix: Watched The Crown until recently. Think they kind of jumped the shark with Diana. Stranger Things. The Witcher. My big go to is reruns of Stargate SG-1.

Disney+: Mostly sports and old movies. Working through Mandalorian.

Amazon: Mostly Monk and Psych reruns. Anxious for Rings of Power. Recently started Mrs. Maisel.

HBO Max: Mostly movies and John Oliver’s show.

Catholic TV: Started this during lockdown, still watch weekday Mass.

I really recommend the Marvelous Ms. maisel. I found it stressful because I don’t really like awkward scenes and it definitely has some of those, but it is outstanding.

If I use streaming services I mostly watch Netflix (I also got HBOgo to watch Chernobyl which is also fantastic, but incredibly dark).

My go to shows on Netflix are Babylon Berlin (a German neo-noir about 1920’s Berlin), the good place, the Great British Bake Off, and Derry Girls.

Babylon Berlin is very good (and I would really recommend), but I can’t say enough good things about Derry Girls. It’s about a group of teenage girls (and one boy) growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. It’s so funny, has some incredibly sweet moments, and I think does a fantastic job of portraying what it really feels like to be a teen.

I only have Amazon Prime. I watched the first couple seasons of Mrs. Maisel. Been so long I don't know if I will pick it up again or not. Watched a bit of the Man in the High Castle (or whatever it was called) and lost interest.

A neighbor has HBO and so I did watch the first season of White Lotus. I think I'll watch again next season of that.

Had Disney Plus for a month to watch the Get Back documentary stuff. Canceled it in December.

I watch a lot of vintage television on DVD sets. Most I re-sell afterwards. Some I keep. Currently watching Leave It to Beaver and the Sopranos (that's some kind of WIDE separation right there!)

we have a bunch a I’m not sure what is on what streaming. I will generally bang around and find something I like and binge it.

Ozarks, strange things, Goliath, outer banks, Yellowstone, the great, and a few more that I can’t remember right now.

I've seen that one advertised and been interested. Wasn't sure if it was sort of in the same vein or not!

Pretty funny to try picturing a backyard BBQ with the Cleaver and the Soprano families just hanging out together.

Netflix - Originally got it to watch Breaking Bad, now it's The Crown, GBBO, Better Call Saul, and some of the direct release movies.

Hulu - Had it with my Spotify, need to recombine it with my Disney+ account. I love Atlanta, Reservation Dogs, Letterkenny, and Wu-Tang. Hate the commercials I had on that.

Disney+ - All the Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney stuff is awesome. Loved Wandavision, Mandalorian, Loki, are awesome.

HBO Max - Got it to watch Chernobyl (amazing show!) and have caught up on a bunch of the older shows. GOT, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and The Soprano's are favorites.

AppleTV - Watching Ted Lasso (it's as good as everyone says it is) and have watched a few movies.

Peacock - Got if for the Olympics and Superbowl. Looking at cancelling it.

We got HBO Max on a half-price trial for six months, and for some reason they extended it for another six months. That might be the best service going right now, IMO. And I guess Discovery+ and HBO Max are merging into one service at some point. Discovery+ looks like a lot of junk TV to me, but YMMV.
