Thanks so much to @MeanDean for this idea!

What are your top five all-time favorite comedy movies? What are your five comedies where, whenever they come on, you will stop what you are doing and watch them?

Mine aren't in any particular order:

This Is Spinal Tap
Airplane!
Ghostbusters
Groundhog Day
**Wet Hot American Summer

**Last place was a hard spot to decide on. I had several strong contenders, but I never get sick of Paul Rudd in this. Second closest contender was Grand Budapest Hotel.

Airplane!
Top Secret!
Romy & Michele's High School Reunion
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Heathers

Am I giving my age away here with four 80s movies and one movie about people from the 80s?

Edit to add an honorable mention: Just Friends

In no particular order:

Monty Python's Holy Grail
Blazing Saddles
Animal House
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Caddy Shack

Narrowed it to 6 ... no specific order

This is Spinal Tap
Groundhog Day
Fargo (black-comedy thriller, still qualifies)
Being John Malkovich (another cross-genre comedy)
Airplane!
Animal House

I probably wouldn’t have to see “Tap” again the rest of my life, I could “watch it” from memory.

Animal House
Caddyshack
Blues Brothers
Blazing Saddles
Any Monte Python movie

Animal House is my favorite comedy of all time. Too much of it gets censored on regular TV though.

No order

The Jerk
Airplane
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
Office Space
Vacation

Difficult to leave off This Is Spinal Tap, so give it an Honorable Mention.

American Graffiti gets pigeonholed as a comedy and it definitely has its comedic moments but it has a deeper overall message, in my eyes anyway. (Edit: Same with Groundhog Day)

Eurotrip
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Top Secret
Mallrats
A Fish Called Wanda

Just missing the cut: Princess Bride, Dazed and Confused, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Clerks, The Jerk

My "whenever they are on TV" list is way different than my Top 5 favorite comedies of All-Time, so here are the 5 comedies that I would watch anytime they were on TV:

The Goonies
Joe Dirt
Police Academy
Groundhog Day
Beetlejuice

I have two lists, one more recent movies, and then a list from the golden age, just cuzz.

I love Mel Brooks stuff at first, but it loses a lot of luster for repeat viewings for me.

The Great Race
Victor Victoria
Galaxy Quest
Best in Show
Ghostbusters

The Philadelphia Story
The Lady Eve
Harvey
It Happened One Night
Ball of Fire
