I feel the same way about joining a club to get discounts. You know like paying an annual premium to a bookstore so I can take a buck or two off each book I buy, or getting a membership to a movie theater so they'll take a buck or two off every time I go there, or paying a premium to a food delivery company like GrubHub or DoorDash to get a discount on delivery frees. It makes very little sense to me to spend money to save money and if it wasn't a good deal for the business, they wouldn't offer it.
Given the way people setup some of these man caves it just might be. Would make bluffing during a poker game more interesting.
Upgraded airline flights are something I'll splurge on, mainly for the apce I don't like flying and have a bigger frame and flying economy is miserable for me. I'll pay the premium so I don't have to sit their with my shoulders scrunched in for 3+ hrs. I don't fly or travel often so spending the money on premium economy or business/first class is worth it for me. Especially since I now live the PNW and unless I'm flying to LA for work, all the flights are coming in at 4 hrs minimum.
This might be a follow on topic next week for Angie, but what are things that people don't spend money on but should?
I worked with (and was housemates with) with a guy who refused to buy a quality pair of workboots. He never wanted to drop the $200 on a pair of redwings that would last him a year or two but had no problem dropping $60 every 3-4 months on some ****** off brand that he had to start gluing together after just two months.
When I flew for business and was in economy, if the opportunity presented to upgrade at a reasonable cost, I usually did so. For me, half or a full day of stressful flying takes me another day to recover, so it's worth the extra cost if I'm more relaxed.
Haircuts.
I haven't paid for a haircut since 2010. As someone who essentially would get a buzz cut, I finally realized there wasn't much point in paying for a haircut style I literally could do myself.
Bought a buzz cutter then and replaced it about 10 years later. Have spent about $50 on haircut related stuff in the last 13 years or so.
