For those people out there that were wondering a month ago which program was headed in a better direction, and which coach got more out of their players...I think the debate is over.

Iowa State - Fred Hoiberg

Coming off of one of our best seasons for the Cyclones in recent memory (23-12), it seemed as though things were on the up and up for Iowa State. Replacing the scoring of Tyrus Mcgee, Cory Lucious, Chris Babb, and Will Clyburn made most practical ISU fans realize that we would be taking a step back in year 4 of Hoiberg's tenure. 2013-2014 - Insert Deandre Kane, Dustin Hogue, Monte Morris, and Naz Long (sorry Matt Thomas), and the clones are not only better this year (24-7), but they get off to a 14-0 start and breeze their way to a certain #4 seed in the tournament or better. Get excited clone fans because we have a few guys named Nader, Mckay, and Custer coming next year and the Clones will looked primed to do more of the same.

Iowa - Fran Mcaffery

Iowa also came off of a strong season late in the year to finish at 9-9 in conference and with over 20 wins for the first time in a long time. They ended the regular season at 20-11 and breezed through the NIT with a "Championship Game" and a 25-13 record, the Hawks looked poised to make a run at the Big 10 in 2013. Returning all of their starters and an impressively deep team, Iowa started out the season hot. However, they ended the year on a 6 of 7 game losing streak ending the season with a record of 20-11. Sound familiar?

There may be a bit of a slanted point of view in this post, but the stats and records sort of speak for themselves. Next year does Iowa State again crack into the top 20, does Iowa get better losing Marble and Basabe? The only thing I do know is that Fred has proven time and time again that Iowa State basketball is on the rise, and we are in for a fun run while the Mayor is in town.

Yeah, but Fran has won more post season games than Fred. Take that, cyclone fans!!!!

When McCaffery first came to Iowa he was showing in the Governors Steer Show at the ISF and came across really personable. From what I knew of Lickliter it seemed like he was a breath of fresh air for the hawks, and I did want him to do well. But he is in over his head. Someone said it in another thread, but if Tim Miles can get Nebraska where he has in year 2 while you are progressing backwards? That isn't going to fly.

McCaffery is like Greg, good midmajor coach (or when he has the best player in college) but not made for big time college basketball. Maybe Iowa can trade him to that school in Cedar Falls for Jacobson.

Mad Fran is certainly an upgrade over Lickliter, but going from terrible to mediocre isn't a ringing endorsement.

Looking back on this, I wonder why they thought Fran would work out. "Hey, the last successful mid-major coach we hired was a big flop, let's do this again!"

You know what's truly awesome.. Francis is just good enough not to fire. :) They are stuck with that poor fool. So much for doing it "the right way"....

I'm sticking with terrible.

I'm assuming Painter will get fired, Collins and Little Ricky have the DNA, jury is still out on Patrick Chambers.

Mad Fran's right in there for worst in the league.

I love EUI fans who said earlier this year, wait until the end of the season to look at RPI... well HOKS,

EUI 54, ISU 10. We could wait a bit longer as it falls each time they step on the court.
