I have been a Vikings fan for many years and have to admit that I wasn't thrilled with the entire is he or isn't he going to come back soap opera with Brett Favre leading up to the season.

Now after the first several games I am thrilled with how well he has played. (Only 1 interception this year so far.)

One thing that I keep hearing from sports radio people and NFL analysts and talking heads on TV drives me nuts: "The big question is how are the Vikings going to keep Favre healthy for the entire season and possible post season?"

Huh?!?!? I realize that Favre is turning 40 this week and injured his arm last year requiring surgery in the off season... but since when did a guy who has started 273 consectuive games turn into an injury prone wuss??

They aren't calling him injury prone. It was well publicized that as the season wore down last year, so did his level of play. And the mere fact that he is 40 and has played in the NFL this long, it is harder and harder to bounce back from Sunday to Sunday.

This was a minor issue late in his career as a Packer as well.

Did he wear down or did he tear a muscle in his arm? Depends on if you want to hate the guy or look at the facts I guess

Yeah I wouldn't say he "wore" down. He tore his bicep. He didn't wear down the year before that, nor any year prior. Not saying he wont show some signs of his age as the year goes on, but he shouldn't really have to throw that many passes this year. I'm more concerned with him getting sacked a lot and sustaining a more serious injury, but then again he ALWAYS gets back up.

At what point can you conclude I hate the guy? I'm a big Favre fan, and have watched him play his entire career.

He's played with injuries year after year after year. Last year was no different. And the fact is, his play suffered from it last year. Is that a fact or do I hate him?

Really? He has struggled in the last 4 games of the season in the last 5 years. His QB rating drops by 9 points and he has thrown 34 interceptions to 13 touchdowns.

Don't confuse Vikings fans with facts... you and I are just bitter.

I saw Packers and I assumed you hated the guy . My bad

I guess I wouldn't say he wore down. Getting injured is different than wearing down

Not injury prone, but I expect his numbers to drop off around week 13.

Based on what?

Last year when he was clearly hampered by an injury?

Or the previous 5 seasons when he put up a 16-9 record down the stretch?

Maybe any isolated falloff was related to either the team that he played on or the crappy playing conditions given that his successor went 1-4 down the stretch last season.

No no, it was all his fault.

He's been pretty terrible in the last 5 weeks of the season for about the last 4 years. I never said the Vikings wouldn't win, they very well could even with his late season breakdown, but his numbers will probably be crap. 2005-2008 during the last 5 weeks of the season he's thrown 13 TD's and 34 picks.

Well, I guess we'll all find out in about 2 months how he finishes the season. I'd tend to think that there are a multitude of circumstances that may have contributed to the previous years' decline.

Favre plays a completely different style of play in Minnesota, so I'm not sure how well previous performances indicate future outcomes. Only time will tell....
