Football Parking Selection

What I worry about with Cytown is that the tailgaiting experience that we are used to will go away to a "you must buy beer at a "Cytown vendor" or food from a "cytown vendor or restaurant". If that is the case i will probably will be cozying up to my TV on fall Saturdays. Hope not, been going to games for 15 years.

I hope cytown is another option and doesn't become a have to.

The good news is I have no fear of this whatsoever...FAR too much demand and not nearly enough space for that to happen. The vast majority of CyTown's purpose isn't on the 7 football gamedays of the year...it's tenants will be mostly aimed at the weekday crowd.

What I do fear is tailgates will be reduced to four people sitting in bag chairs with their knees touching because that's the amount of space most of the parking spaces offer. Being able to fire up the grill or play bags or whatever tailgating activity suits you becomes available only in the S lots or RV lot with the remainder of the lots being just a parking lot all in the name of not losing parking spots due to CyTown.

I predict that this will drive more folks to the RV Village. The AD knows that it can always fill the cheap lots, but it just created another incentive to fill the more expensive lots.

I would wager plenty of money to say you'll still have room for plenty of people, grill, tent, tables, etc. I don't know why you seem to think each tailgate will be confined to a 6x6 box.. there's room between the cars and the fire lane, just chill. Queue the "I hope you're right, but..." response.

Pay more, receive less. Is this a great country or what?
Hey it’s tied to college. Isn’t that the college student want? How many times did you complain that you didn’t have more tests and assignments or you weren’t punished for skipping class. I had one class I showed up twice to lecture, took the tests blindly, and got a C. I don’t complain one bit as I didn’t want the class anyhow.

You think people will stop throwing tents up on 3-4 other spaces and yelling at people who say they need one of them to park as the others are either full of cars or tents? I don’t see that happening.

I’m not fond of perpendicular parking, hate it actually. It results in door dings and worse. Angled parking results in the yellow line areas at the ends. Those ends for which we waited hours at the gates to open and we rush to get them for room to the 10by10 tent, Grill, etc, etc. and take nap before. “Official” tailgating begins.

From what I remember: Been to Tiger Lane twice, paid a small membership fee and then pay $30 you pick the NUMBERED parking space you want and there is ELECTRICITY. First year we picked two spaces side by side near a grass peninsula. Next time we bought two, but one on each side of a peninsula. Seemed like an acre of grass for just two cars of friends and gear.

I do hope ISU adds those fire lane white lines like K-State. If not, folks will encroach on fire lane trying to get tailgating like the “Good Olde Days”. Really like the accessible parking marked out in K-State photo.

While visiting CyTown this week, I wondered how the two tunnels will be modified for the 3-5 feet higher CyTown. “D” lots ready for asphalt overlay. Imagine will be done later, when more lots ready so asphalt contractor can mobilize once onto site.

If you’re taking a nap before tailgating you aren’t doing it right. Supposed to show up, take some shots and shotgun beers while making the food. Finish that, eat, more shots and beers during this and then pass out for a couple hours, wake up, kick back some fireball and go to the game.

You really oughta drop this shtick. Iowa State is predominately an Ag school with tons of donors that work in the Ag industry. Not everyone is going to go buy a Mini Cooper or small sedan just to please you in the tailgate lots. Pickups are always going to be a reality at games here.
I’ll remember that when I see you trying to crank the wheel around to fit into these new spaces. Then when you and your fat family slam open the doors and dent the cars parked next to you, hitch up your pants, burp a big beer belch and proudly walk back to your tailgate to hoist out your cooler. It’s got nothing to do with the “ag industry”, for Christ sake look at all of the dummies driving these lifted monstrosities around west Des Moines. I can’t count the number of times some guy with just his wife or girlfriend tried to wind their way thru the lots to find a spot an hour before kickoff. Should have a designated lot just for these inadequate endowed clowns.

Lots of fresh door dings heading our way.

I have it on good authority athletics gets pissy about golf carts in the lots. I'm guessing RV lot is different.
Yeah, several years back, wife's foot got run over as we were visiting friends tailgate, things were really tight, driver felt horrible. We iced it and since it wasn't a direct, but glancing blow, and she felt it was just bruised, decision was made to get to the game. I went to the Box Office to request a golf cart to take her to our seat aisle and then we carry her to the seat. Nope, no golf carts for civilians in the lots. We had to carry her to the gate, got ride up the ramp, then resumed carrying her to seats, Just carried her to car after!

I’m bringing one of these and charging 5 bucks a beer next year.

Just let me know where you park, so I can make sure I'm door dinging the correct vehicle.

Got this figured out - I’ll drive the Mini and park east/west. I’ll have plenty of room for tailgating and not be outside of my space
