With football coming up I am trying to caption and keyword some older stuff and have this gallery.

https://winterinkphotography.smugmug.com/FB/FBMedia1981/

Also I have the 1981 athlons big eight magazine. some tidbits are:

Top recruits that year:
1. Sean Salisbury
2. Bill Fralic
5. Mark Rypien
6. Jack Del Rio
12. William Perry
85. Mike Tomzak

National preseason prediction:
1. Michigan
2. Oklahoma
3. Alabama
4 Georgia
Unlikely but not inconceivable that could be the final four this year.

Big Eight predictions:
1. Oklahoma
2 Nebraska
3. Missouri
4. Kansas
5. Oklahoma State
6. Iowa State
7. Kansas State
8. Colorado

Cool stuff. Thanks for posting.

I bought a preseason magazine that year, might have been Athlon (I don't know how many others published at that time). The one I had, Dwayne Crutchfield was on the cover.

Who is number 10? Is that Alex Giffords?

This was an OU tie year, correct?...and Giffords missed a critical field goal?

I have no recollection because a. I was a Hawk fan then and b. I was slightly older than the far right tube socks kid in that photo, lolz.

EDIT: cool pics, thanks!

Wesley, you’re making me feel old!

Looking through my stuff, I just ran across a preseason mag from ‘79–and my copy of “Blue Chips” recruiting magazine from that same year.

The preseason mag wasn’t Athlon, will have to look. Pretty sure it’s a brand that’s long defunct—but I had fun reading it at the time.

Holy shoulder pads Batman!

Just had to love that lime green carpet on concrete.

Great pics!

Think I got a turf burn just looking at pics of that field
I did the ISU camp my Junior year in high school. They had a turf practice field back then and I had never experienced ' turf toe'. My soft tissue stayed put and the bone kept going on my big toe. I felt the crunch. Not fun.

Yes, that's Alex. And yes, that was the OU-tie season. I think he missed 4 FGs that day --- which I'm sure is the only time that happened during his ISU career. One the FGs was from something like 66 yards on the final play, so obviously that's forgivable.

Awesome thank you for sharing.

That was my senior year in High School! I had to work every Saturday (bag boy @ Publix) , and I would call my Nebraska buddy for score updates. The only game I attended that season in person was the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando won by Mizzou (7-4) 19-17 over Southern Miss (9-1-1) in a mild Upset. Mondays at lunch were always fun rehashing the weekend games with my Nebraska buddy and my Oklahoma buddy. Had other friends from Kansas and Ohio too. Bunch of transplants in Orlando!

Great pant and jersey combination. Looked unlike anyone else and easy to distinguish. That gold on the pants is what I wish we had moved forward with. When Criner and Roger Gade came, they changed the yellow to a Green Bay shade of yellow/gold and a fire engine red.

The talent in the program was really good. 3rd best in the Big 8. McDounough (SP) , Boskey and Steve Little as a back up? Amazing DT talent. Very good OL talent as well.

If anyone knows if some of these jerseys are still around, I would buy one in a minute!! I saw two of them at the Akron game last year! Looked sharp

Quick observations:
* Boskey was a senior that season, correct?
* I think Arnaud got injured in the win over Missouri (huge win at the time, MU was ranked) and was lost for the season. Am I remembering that correctly?
* Anyone remember Crutchfield's tear-away jersey?
* Anyone remember the tear-away jersey period, in general? Show of hands?
* That was arguably Duncan's best ISU team -- bummer how it faded down the stretch.
