Dont worry, not another finished basement thread, but I ran into a small problem while finishing my basement and I am hoping someone can help.

Short story, I am finishing my basement and acting as the general contractor. I am ready for insulation. I will be hiring someone to do spray in insulation. I love the fact that it doubles as the vapor barrier.

The problem is that I had the shower installed already and the guy who is doing the spray in insulation tells me that he can spray behind the shower, but not well.

So my question, is there a product that I can spray behind my shower that will act as the vapor barrier and insulation at the same time and I will be able to spray in well?

I would rather not pull the shower out.

Thanks CF!

Could get some of that "shake and rake" loose fiberglass insulation and just put it behind there. However, that doesn't really solve your moisture barrier problem.

I used the shake and rake stuff in my attic above the garage. Really easy and made a huge difference.

The issue with that would be the vapor barrier though. I definitely wouldn't put in loose insulation between a shower and a concrete wall without a vapor barrier in there. Sounds like you are in a bit of a pickle, but I think your best option, if you aren't going to take out the shower, would be to still go with spray, unless you know you have a good barrier around the shower already.

I too have a one piece fiberglass shower stall up against the foundation in my "finished" basement.

The previous owners never insulated any of the walls, so the foundation is on a lot of the walls. Just painted it.

It doesn't look half bad...but obviously not the best solution.

Regardless of whether or not its a 1-piece or not, take the extra time and just take it down and let him spray behind properly. You'll be much happier in the long run.

I know your right and probably didnt need CF to tell me what I knew, I was just hoping for an "easy" solution that was just as good.

However, I think that taking it out is the only way to go.....
