Has anyone had Cowan or Borisova as a finance professor? I thought I knew most of them, but have no idea about these two. How are they?

I never had Arnie, but I have a friend that did her honors project with him about 10 years ago. He's kind of a dork, but she didn't have any problems with him.

I had Arnie back in 2001 for International Finance, he knows his stuff, however he is boring and monotone and I could not stay awake. Thus. I dropped his class and lost Finance as my second major, lol.

The bolded is true, I had him a few years ago for International Finance. One story, I don't know how we got on to the subject, but he was talking about how if you had a problem with him or the way he taught his class he actually said in front of the class "I don't care because I'm tenured."

I also had Cowan for the International Finance course and agree 100 pct with what was said above. He's not very exciting to listen to, very monotone, and comes off as somewhat odd. There is no question whatsoever that he is extremely knowledgeable in the courses he instructs, I just personally found his teaching style difficult to absorb much in lectures. His tests were fairly difficult as well with some essay questions as well as multiple choice and true/false.

I had Cowan back in the late 80's. Weirdo. Wore Moon boots. Scary smart.

Great I'm sure I will love this class :jimlad:

It was just kind of a jerk thing to say in my opinion. Just go to class, you probably don't really even need to read the book. His test questions come from class. There was really nothing wrong with the class and I never really talked to him so I never had a big problem with him. I'm neutral, with a lean towards dislike.

I had Borisova and she was a great teacher. She has a great sense of humor and really appreciates when students get involved with the class. She seemed to like some sarcasm in the classroom. Very helpful and approachable.

I sign up for professors based on looks. :jimlad:

I had the guy 20 years ago. Trust me, the first impression based on his looks were right on the money. Thankfully, I had a friend to my left that interpreted for me throughout the class.

definately take a class with borisova if possible, sweet woman. Also really cool to talk to if you need to visit her for office hours, she definately likes people that participate
