Favorite "National Anthem" Performance

Anyone else remember a stunning performance of the Star Spangled Banner or seen one on youtube that you'll never forget? Was thinking about this during the parade I went to this morning, had a phenomenal 9 year old boy sing.

Saw this one online a while back, 7 year old at a college basketball game:

And this one nearly makes me want to cry. A disabled man got a little nervous, and the Fenway Faithful picked him right up.

Can't say I have a favorite, but I know what style I like--nice and simple. When it gets long and drawn out (e.g. at most post-season "event" games) it's usually overkill IMO.

And frankly this is the way it ought to be sung every time it's done. No matter how young the kid is or fabulous the performance is, there's nothing better than tens of thousands of people singing it together.

I thought it was really cool watchin the coach come out and help. Marvin is by far my favorite though with Whitney Huston in a close second.

Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl during Desert Storm may be one of the best ever.
I sing the song at several events and a couple times with smaller crowds just ask everyone to join with me, so I just start off and put the mic down.
 
(1) Instrumentals
(2) A cappella groups (preferably 4-6 people, but the Iowa Statesmen are also rock solid)
(3) Soloists that finish in 1:20 or less (the song's not a funeral dirge, nor is it about you, folks...get a move on.)
 
Without a doubt it's Super Bowl XXV and Whitney Houston. It's 1991 and Operation: Desert Storm. I think the emotion that is shown by the man crying during her performance just about sums it up.

This girl performed before Orlando Magic games during the NBA playoffs. She's a 7-year-old autistic girl who couldn't even speak until age 3. Amazing.
