I was surprised that ISU's enrollment went up a bit this fall up to 30,117. Just barely edging out UI, 30,042. Hey at least we can say that ISU is again the largest university in the state. The crazy part is ISU was up to 36,000 a just few years ago.

I've said this before but 4 year colleges are pricing themselves out of the market. People are growing leery of accruing $50,000+ in debt to get a BS or BA degree. That's like having a mortgage.... but no house. You can get a degree in computer coding, engine repair, or similar trades for $10-15K at a community college and get a good job.

If any kids out there want to be a mechanic I have a great opportunity for you to learn. And I will charge you considerably less than a community college!!

If you can drive a big truck safely (No CDL required) that'd be a huge PLUS!

I have told my children, that if they do not earn a significant scholarship, they will need to go to JUCO first. JUCO is a good place to save money on your gen eds and to test out some classes to see what you might like to take more of. Switching majors a couple of times at a 4-year school a pricey lesson.
