We are ranked last in home crowd noise according to pollers (current players). Does this have to do w/ the construction of Hilton or are we that quiet? Our student section isn't good imo and hasn't been for awhile. I remember it being more full when I was in school but maybe I'm biased. Maybe it will be different w/ wins...just wanted to throw this out there.

We may need to get PETA involved in this. For some reason we just cant let this horse stay in the ground. People just keep digging it back up and beating it some more.

Wow - did they disassemble and reassemble Hilton Coliseum sometime in the last decade? Because the construction of the building never has been used as an excuse as to why the arena has been so quiet.

The real reason as to why Hilton is so quiet is 5 years of **** basketball compounded with people purchasing high-priced tickets that are either too good to show up for the game or, when at the game get all "I spent the money and I'll be the kind of fan that I want to be". Hilton Magic cannot survive, much less thrive, under such conditions. Hopefully winning will change things.

Makes me want to puke to read that. Hilton used to be in the top 3 in the conference (along with Allen Fieldhouse and GIA). And no, we weren't winning Big 8 titles when it was like that.

I have no desire to offer my personal opinion of why...too many current ticket holders will just get defensive and blame it solely on poor performance on the court, and I'm a lot more tired of that story than the story of how Hilton has slipped.

Bring it back, Fred. And it's going to take more than just a few more Ws in conference play.

Fred's gonna need some magic to bring back the magic. The fans have to step up as well. Who cares if this team only goes .500, they're way more fun to watch than the last 4 years and play with guts and work their ***** of. I think the Montana St. game was a good place to start, the crowd was decent and got loud at some points.

Yes, I'm sure winning will bring the noise back...I've purchased season tickets for 3 years now and will agree the GMac style of play was boring (Texas was a fun game last year) and finally made it to the game Saturday and the crowd was surprisingly pretty good. I love cheering when Hoiberg comes out from the locker room. It's just nice to see this style of play back at Hilton.

Wow if that crowd was decent we have slipped a long ways. I went to that game and it was dead. I just chalked it up to it being a half empty holiday crowd. I had student season tickets and my last year was Fred's first year. It is no lie that the person next to you could yell at you and you could not understand them for large segments of games. Hilton was intimidating and something to be proud of. Please bring that back!

Losing McD ball was not conducive to cheering. It was boring.

Corrected. We never lit up the scoreboard under Floyd but there was still plenty of magic left in Hilton then. When Hilton was at it's best, it was just as loud when we were on defense than after a big dunk or a 3. Times have changed, people have changed, and we've sucked for what seems like an eternity.....not a good combo. It's not going to come back overnight and as mentioned before, people need to be willing to go out of their comfort zone a little bit, stand up, and make some noise. It will feed on itself, but it needs to get started first.

I remember those days...the last few seasons walking up the steps to get into Hilton has been pretty depressing. The place needs work, the crowd needs work.

After going to the new KFC Yum Center in Louisville and seeing what a Big East arena is like and the atmosphere, we've got some work to do. I think Fred will take us to new heights, but we've dropped behind a ways.

Well, that's a brand new arena.

Carver-Hawkeye is a joke. Not just the crowd and such, but the facility as a whole. Hilton is lightyears ahead IMO.

CHA is a joke. That Yum center holds 22,000. The place is INCREDIBLE! But Hilton needs some work. Not sure what good putting the Johnny Orr restaurant does for the place.

The crowd has been quiet over the last few years because of the product on the floor. Win games and it will get loud again. The way Hilton is constructed, it is supposed to hold in sound. Solid concrete, steel doors, steep seating built close to the floor. I can't wait for the noise to come back.

The ceiling in Hilton is the key to the sound. The center part is made of cedar, and is designed to reflect the sound down into the seating areas. Everything designed into the ceiling is there to make the sound reflect. It was built as a multi-purpose facility and the sound quality was important. Some of the same principles designed into C.Y. Stephens were incorporated into Hilton.

How do I know? One of my first jobs at the Center was that of tour guide. In fact, I helped to write the first tour guide manual.....lol.

So, all you need to make the sound what it has been in the past is for the fans to get involved. I really think it has to start with the students though. It helps to have a winning, exciting team......but that was not always required. Johnny did not always have winning teams, but Hilton was still an intimidating place to play. Hell, it was a hard place to play even under Nance and Trickey.

No way we are quieter than Colorado.

It's sad that we've slipped, but I highly doubt Hilton is a worse home court advantage/atmosphere than any of the Texas schools. I am positive it is a better and louder home court atmosphere than Nebraska and Colorado. Texas isn't even rocking when they're a top ten team.

ISU is top 50 in the nation in attendance regularly even through bad years, top 25 during the Wayne years even. How on Earth does that make us worse than an empty arena in Nebraska or Colorado for teams who are just as bad or worse?

When we get back to at least being an above average team we'll be right up there with the rest of the old Big 8 basketball schools and above the Texas schools for atmosphere, if not better than the non-KU Big 8 arenas.
