Is it ok to use an empty seat near your own seat in Jack Trice?
My season ticket seat is in the row right behind my oldest son's seat. Last Saturday at the Baylor game, there were 2 empty seats on my left side. My son moved back to my row to stand by me. As I said the seats had not been utilized by anyone in the early part of the game. There was a couple in the next 2 seats that told my son that "those seats were bought already and he couldn't sit there." My son said to them that if the occupant of the seat came he would move back but would like to stand by his dad. They started to get very upset. A person 2 or 3 rows behind the couple started to yell at my son to get out of the seat. My son did move back to his seat. He told me that while they were correct that the seat was not his, he felt that their response was way out reason. I totally agreed with him. BTW- No one ever sat in those seats the entire game.

OK to us or OK to people who take it too seriously?

If no one is using it and your son already had a ticket, like he did, then who cares?
That said, I know MBB changed their practices during the small crowds of the McD era as to where balcony people coule move down and sit due to people who spent a lot complaining about us paupers or whatever invading their section.

Officially, I assume the AD isn't cool with it. Since the seat is open, you're really not cheating someone, so who should care?

Is it possible that the couple had all 4 seats and they left 2 open for a specific reason which is why they said something?

yeah, i think this depends on who has claim to the seats being complained about.

Sitting in an empty seat for a bit? Not a big deal as long as you're prepared to move promptly if the ticketholder shows up.

Pay for multiple seats and not using them all? Your right to say who sits in them if you're there. If you want those seats just for your stuff to sit in, that's your right.

Simply sit near someone else's empty seats and someone else comes and sits in one? Mind your own business.

That’s was kind of my thought. If they had the ticket fine show it but if it is just a random unused seat screw off. People need to learn to be flexible. I’m more worried about the people who encroach into your seat.

If you thought that was bad, you should have seen the refs on the field!

If I let the kids stand there do I at least get the ability to have them kicked out?

Let's say in a hypothetical situation they start spilling contraband beer or yelling slurs

Can I have the usher check for tickets then?

Any seat is fair game but if you didn't buy it, then you gotta get out if the people who bought them show up.

Good example was at the United Center for the Sweet 16 this year. We snuck down to the 3rd row after the first game and thought we hit the jackpot when we noticed these seats were empty the entire previous game. Well about halfway through the first half, a couple Miami fans show up and claim their seat back. So we had to go hat in hand back to the upper deck where our real seats were.

But the guy next to us (providence fan) when we were leaving was like "I knew they weren't yours but I respected the hustle, good luck!"

Those people are called a$$holes...

Wow, people like this actually exist? I've been going to games for years and have never had the misfortune of someone that doesn't own a ticket for a seat tell me to move. Being that tightly wound can't be good for their health. I'd hate to see what they're like if someone in the parking lot puts an empty beer can in the trash instead of the clear plastic bag clearly intended for recyclables.

The only way that they had a point was if they were their seats. Which they surely would have mentioned.

I kinda get being a little salty if you had a open seat next to you and someone moved there, cutting into your elbow room. That's happened to me before. But they're just as entitled to it as anybody else.

This is why I got seatbacks. Had some fat dude sit next to me for a few seasons when I was a kid, and I can assure you that they are so worth it in terms of claiming your space.
