Per ESPN, Swish N Dish is the premier spring tournament for the midwest.

Ellenson was named top center and Noskowiak, along with Jalen Brunson, were named the top point guards of the tournament.

Best center

Henry Ellenson
2015, 6-10, 220 pounds
Travel Team: Playground Elite (Wis.)
Ellenson is not a true center but he was the best big guy at the event. He has grown to just about 6-10, slimmed down and increased his skill level. He is effective off the dribble and is hard to guard for other post players. When he is able to consistently be productive he will become a candidate for top-25 consideration in the 2015 class.

Best point guards

Nick Noskowiak
2015, PG, 6-2, 180 pounds
Travel Team: Playground Elite (Wis.)
Noskowiak was a beast. He has good size and is aggressive offensively. His outside shot is streaky, but his size and strength allows him to score in the paint. Last year he seemed to be more of a pass-first point guard. He now looks to score while still creating for others. He went at every PG that was put in front of him this past weekend.

Ellenson would be absolutely perfect for Fred's system here - I hope he knows that

Unfortunately Ellenson also seems to fit that Bo Ryan model as well. While typically a slower pace, Ryan really takes advantage of the big man with ball skills mismatch as well.

I think (hope) the advantage here for ISU is that I believe they were in on Ellenson pretty early. Sometimes that makes a difference with a kid, and hopefully it will with him.

As far as Noskowiak goes, it would be nice to add him, but I think ISU is set at PG for the next few years. Of course, you always need back-up. Still, I would rather see ISU get more shooting guards or wings that can shoot a consistently high percentage from the perimeter.

I would like to see ISU pursue Austin Grandstaff for 2015, but I'm not sure they are interested.

Afraid you could be right. Have read various recent articles and we're not even listed. Unless he's keeping our contact with him under wraps, I'm guessing it will be very difficult to pull him from Bo, now.

I had the impression we're very interested, but not sure what I'm basing that on. Not sure he (or his Dad) is on us, though???

I'm not sure. At one point I thought ISU was in his list of schools, but then he opened up his recruitment again, and now ISU does not appear on his list at ESPN. Of course, that may mean absolutely nothing.

It will be interesting to see how everything shakes out. Everything I read indicates that NN is really high on ISU but Ellenson isn't but ISU is high on Ellenson but not NN. Clear as mud?

If Ellenson and NN came as some package deal (because they play AAU together) and this is a trend now, I could see us really stepping up pressure on NN.

Having multiple PG's that can handle the ball, attack the rim, shoot 3's, and distribute the ball is a good thing. ISU was at their best this season with Kane and Morris on the floor together. With Hoiball there really isn't a difference between a SG and a PG because they all handle the ball, they all shoot, and they all create in Fred's system. IMO... the guys coming in as PG's typically are better defenders because they are so used to playing on-ball defense. In a system designed to create mismatches having multiple PG's on the floor can really cause problems for a team trying to defend against them.

I just want all our schollies to be productive instead of the Bubu and Bluford situations last year. Felt like Fennelly at work with schollies.

Also Illikainen was named player on the rise at the Earl Watson Elite Scout Camp in Colorado that includes mostly west coast to rocky mountain region players.

On The Rise

Alex Illikainen
2015, PF, 6-8, 225
Status: Claims offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Cal, Oregon, Nebraska, Creighton, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Wisconsin-Green Bay
Illikainen, from Grand Rapids, Minn., will become better known when he suits up for Howard Pulley in the Nike EYBL. This stretch 4-man has a soft shooting touch out to the 3-point line and he'll bang inside for buckets as well.

Ellenson told Kakert at hawkeye report that Iowa was recruiting him the hardest and they are a serious contender FWIW. Don't think anyone will be able to get him from Bo Ryan though.

I agree that NN will be a hell of a player.

I know you can never have enough great players, but could he co exist with Monte, Naz, Thomas, SDW for 2 years and Custer for 3?

The question is more likely to be can those other guys, sans Morris coexist with NN?

Lets say we got 40 min at 1, 40 min at 2, 20 min at 3 for these players (I know Fred doesn't use positions, blah blah).

Morris - 35
Naz - 25
Thomas - 20
Custer - 15
SDW, ??? - 5....

And thats assuming Thomas' production doesn't improve much.

We have a lot of good players and not enough time....

IMO that would not likely be NN's problem. We have lots of players we think will be good. Given we are speculating, I think NN would be better than a couple of those.
We play at least 4 guards and NN would likely be one of those imo. Plus, Naz would be a senior- a guy like NN would see plenty of PT early in his career.
