So I see the Cards signed Edmonds to a minor league deal. I'm not sure how much he has in the tank, but he looked pretty good in Milwaukee last year until Macha tried to make him an everyday player and ran him into the ground. He's a good clubhouse guy, which the Cardinals were sorely missing last year and should be a good lefty bat to have on the bench, assuming of course he can make the roster. He should also be able to provide some depth in the outfield. Hopefully he can mentor Rasmus a little bit.
I've never been much for stat accumulators making the HOF, but if Edmonds has even a decent season, he's going to make some pretty impressive benchmarks. Right now he sits at 393 HRs, 1199 RBI, 998 BB and 437 2B. 400 HR, 1200+ RBI, 1000+ BB and 450 2B would look pretty decent along with a .280 career BA, 8 Gold Gloves, and a World Series ring. He wasn't the best CF in the game as his peak pretty much matched up with Griffey, but he was in the conversation and definitely ONE of the best of his generation. I think all of his GG's were earned, ie, he wasn't getting any just on his name toward the end. It's impossible to say how careers will be viewed coming out of the steroid era.
