Several ISU mentions in Jeff Eisenberg's 68 'bold' predictions for upcoming season (SIAP):
20. Big 12 breakout star: Donovan Jackson, Iowa State
28. Basketball schools that will have more success on the gridiron than the hardwood this year: Memphis, Iowa State
33. Freshmen ranked outside the top 10 who will have the biggest impact this season: Oklahoma’s Trae Young, Oregon’s Troy Brown and Iowa State’s Lindell Wigginton

I was more than a bit surprised to see DJ getting this kind of preseason attention.

DJ is going to score a lot. High volume almost assures that.

He will end up with eye popping numbers.

LW will put up big scoring numbers too.

The question will become will we have 3-4 other players on any given night that can put up double digits too.

What did Solomon Young do during the exhibition? I've been looking for a box score, but failing miserably.

Not much at all. He played pretty tentatively to try to avoid foul trouble (but didn't avoid it). Since the offense wasn't running efficiently (to put it mildly), and everything was basically happening too late, he really didn't get any good looks.

He mostly just racked up fouls. He did have one nice pick and roll dunk though.

cyclones.com has a box score

Solo didn't look great. I think getting Lard out there will be huge for him to open up the front court a bit more for the two of them.

Solo also had a couple plays where he established excellent position in the post for a feed from our guards, and they wouldn't feed him. I'm hoping that gets ironed out because I think he can score pretty efficiently when given the ball 6 feet from the hoop.

I wouldn't say wouldn't. It seemed like they weren't ready to feed him when he got that position, and by the time they were ready, the defense had adjusted. Everything in the half court set just happened a half second too late.

The main one I'm thinking of, he had position at 6 feet, then slowly moved out until he got the ball 14 feet from the basket. Gotta get it to him earlier.

Solo and Babb are the two X factors for the year for me. I'm a little worried the guys around Solo may have made him look a little more advanced than he is. I'm not sure he's a guy you dump it in to the post and let him make a move quite yet, and I'm not sure we have the playmakers to find him in the pick and roll consistently.

Impossible to judge how Solo and Babb are going to be from that exhibition. I'm expecting very similar production to last year from both.

This team has the potential to be the best in scoring in transition we have seen in a while. NWB and DJ can really extend defense and get into passing lanes, but that might be tough for them to do at the level they did last year playing so many more minutes this year.
It seems most see J Long as the odd man out in the rotation, but I see a role getting some minutes to crank up some half court pressure for spurts. I'm imagining what DJ and NWB did at Hilton vs TTech.
It's going to be a lot harder puzzle for Prohm to put together this year, no doubt. I'm excited for the season to play out. I've forgotten what an actual rebuilding year feels like. It's been a long time where it wasn't either lack of hope under McD to pretty much reloading under Fred and Prohm.

I think we’ll see a completely different team this Friday. It’s goimg to be a fun game and the beginning of a new era of Cyclone basketball (TM).

I think we'll still look a little ugly, but I do believe that we'll be far more focused and get a good effort.

It looks like NWB had a nice game -- double digit pts, 6 RBs, 4 assists to 1 TO, and 5 steals. That's solid.

Babb should produce better overall numbers than he did last year. Young, we'll see.

I think Young can be an effective scorer, but we didn't get it to him in good spots. Wigginton had Young open on the block and in good position. He looked at him, dribbled, and then by the time he got it to him, he was almost on the wing. Young looked hurried on both of his outside shots. I expect him to be more relaxed as the season goes on. He looked like he was frustrated and thought he had to get one up. When he starts getting the ball in rhythm, I think we'll see him hit a few 17-footers and threes. When he can parlay that into a pumpfake and drive, then we really have something.
