Dungy to decide on Colts future after season ends

He is one of the best "people" in all of sports history - truly a genuine guy that tries to do the right thing before worrying about the wins. He's my favorite coach of my favorite team and I'd hate to see him go but at least we know he'd be doing it for family reasons.

This doesn't bode well for the Colts though. Caldwell is being courted by other teams - should Dungy leave - it would be a staff rebuilding process that could set them back.

It could but they've got a great team with some good contracts in place that should keep them competitive regardless. I think Dungy is a big key to their success, no question about it. I think they'd really have to look to bring in somebody with a similar nice-guy persona - in my opinion - to be able to keep the image of a clean midwestern program that everybody can like. They have a new stadium being built and a great core so they should be able to find a top-notch coach ready to keep them moving in the right direction.

What about KF? *ducks*

I certainly don't think they'll fall apart. But when a team loses a guy like Dungy, it has a much bigger impact than a team losing a guy like Gibbs, Jimmy Johnson, etc.

To me, Dungy defines Indy as much as Peyton Manning does. I remember lamenting his departure from Minnesota for Tampa. Total class act all the way. It was no secret that he was going to be a great head coach. Everyone knew it. I think that you can call it luck that he ended up coaching a team with the best QB of the modern era, but I think Dungy would have been successful, no matter where he would have gone. If he retires, it will be a huge loss to the NFL.

Well, he was pretty successful in Tampa and didn't have near the QB that he does in Indy. Yeah, Dungy is one of the best. I hope he finds a way into the HOF. The on-paper resume may not be enough - but he certainly deserves it.

And it's not just because he's a "nice guy".

Tony Dungy is a good coach and an even better person. If he retired, I think the smart thing for the colts to do would be to promote from within, and keep their same power structure in place.
