DSM Regional Final - WBB

ISU can't host both round of 64 and sweet 16 per NCAA rules.

Not sure why UNI was chose over Drake.

I went and Des Moines was a huge success. Lower bowl was pretty much full and I think DM will prove to of had the best attendance of the 4 regionals.

My guess would be that Des Moines uses Drake Athletic Department to host many of the Track and Field events held at Drake so they went with UNI on this one as to not burn out Drake staff since they are hosting the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in June.

As stated above - UNI approached DSM to host. Being a host is a boatload of work for the school, especially when you aren't at your own arena. The host school is responsible for everything. This ended up being the 6th most attended regional when a host school wasn't play there, so that is huge. DSM will end up with more people than Raleigh and Fresno combined.

As stated in another recent thread, ISU can host both sub-regional and regional games, if they apply and are selected to do so. They just can no longer play in the regionals they are hosting. Should a host team make the tournament, they are automatically placed in another region than their own, but still play at their host site for 1st and 2nd rounds.
