Well I don't feel sorry for him one bit. Sounds like he was putting everyone else in danger because of his stupidity.
The eastbound lanes of Lincoln Way in that area are closed for resurfacing. I've seen more than a few people pull on to the "closed" portion before figuring it out.
I didn't know there was construction going on like that, the paper makes it sound like he was just turned around. The eastbound lanes of Lincoln Way in that area are closed for resurfacing. I've seen more than a few people pull on to the "closed" portion before figuring it out.

I should clarify that in no way do I condone the decision to drink and drive. Phenomenally stupid, at all levels, and he should be punished for it.
Just wanted to share anecdotal evidence of (presumably) sober people being confused by all of the cones.
Sure, but did they all have a BAC over twice the legal limit??
No, which was exactly his point.
He's stupid for driving drunk. But saying his driving in the eastbound lane was solely a product of his drinking isn't all that fair, since sober people apparently make the same mistake pretty routinely.
Agreed. If he did it with a .08 BAC it might have been open for discussion whether it was a bad break or not. But with that BAC he deserves what he gets.
Blood and gore, come on. Nobody is arguing drunk people driving should be arrested, it's the couple beers at happy hour arrests that is bs. Yeah, it's the federal govt but they get these laws passed using certain statistics that shouldn't exist. I was told by a cop buddy of mine that if you say...bought a bottle of wine to drink later and on the way home, someone rear ended you giving you whiplash. Even though alcohol didn't play a role, the cop still has to check the box alcohol related. It's part of how "alcohol related" accident statistics are so highTwp of my neighbors are members of the Ames police force. They both would rather not work any overtime. Neither enjoy seeing the blood and gore of an accident caused by a drunk driver. Blame the federal government if you do not like the .08 law. The states have no choice if they want to receive federal highway funds.
.08 limits is bs anyway. Ruining people's careers and whatnot over literally 2 drinks. And they are putting forth laws to lower that even further. The dangerous people driving are not the .08 people, but the .18+ people. But don't worry, soon just a cap full Of NyQuil will lock you up and add to the cop payroll. Ask the average cop how much he makes in overtime due to DUI, OWI, etc, then you will see the real reason the limit keeps dropping.
