Downtown Royals Stadium

By the time this comes up having your new stadium in the middle of the country will be all the rage.

I think it would be a good thing for Downtown Kansas City, but Jackson County politics wont let it happen.

I think they’d be foolish to leave the K to spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars... but that’s me.
Nothing wrong with the K at the present time, but the lease runs out in 2030. I'd rather see a new stadium than renovate Kaufmann again at that point.

Are they gonna tear down Kaufman and add parking for more tailgating outside of Arrowhead? Or maybe an entertainment plaza like CyTown?

That's where they're gonna build the new Arrowhead. Either a roof gets built for Arrowhead or a new one is built. The movers and shakers in KC are sick of missing out on Super Bowls and Final Fours.

They didn’t specify a location. Any guesses where this would be — the bottoms by the old Kuemper Arena? Maybe the east side of downtown (revitalize the Vine Street area)? I’m trying to think where there is enough space available.

They're talking about the area east of the old KC star building. Right on the other side of the street.

If the taxpayers vote for this they are really stupid. The Royals are averaging 15k people. I wish communities would stop this crap.
It'll be interesting to see financing. A lot of times hotel taxes are a huge chunk.

Agreed. From reading the letter, similar to other sport teams, the owners want to use the movement of the stadium in to a new area to buy the real estate of it and profit off its development. The stadium and the team is just the eye candy needed for the politicians to sell to the citizens, but the real play is for an easier path to buy the land the Royals want and develop it with apartments, entertainment, and maybe office space.
