I went to the State Tournament today and saw Ames play. The player of the game was Doug McDermott. I was very impressed. Very athletic, good hands and feet, runs the floor very well, plays smart and scored 22 points.. Should receive a lot of D1 offers. Has the potenial to play in Big 12. Much better prospect than Ross Marsden or Alex thompson at this point in career. Harrison Barnes got two fouls in 1st quarter and sat out the whole second quarter. Is silky smooth. Would be the 2nd best player on this years Iowa State Team behind Brackins. Hopefully he is still considering the Cyclones. Ames has incredible amount of talent. They would be undefeated and State Champs with or without Harrison Barnes. They are that good. They will blowout Johnston in their next game. Possibly the best team ever in the State of Iowa.

He's not on par with Marsden or Thompson as a prospect quite yet. That's not to say his career won't be better....

He's a mid major prospect at this point.

Doug McDermott never missed a shot in the game. He was 10 for 10 from the field and 2 for 2 from the line.

I couldn't agree more. Ames is the best high school team I've ever seen..and to think that whole team pretty much is juniors is just mind numbing. I was very impressed with Doug as well...at this point I can't imagine him at least not walking on at ISU. I think he's that good.

I have a question about Doug that is kind of off topic. Usually guys on highschool basketball teams hang out with each other. This is probably not the case, but wouldn't it be funny if HB and Doug were good friends????
You could never go to your friends house because you would violate NCAA rules.

And yes...Ames next year could be really, really, good.

Do you expectations rise if he does come to iowa state? Do you expect national championships ever two years, and getting to at least the big 12 championship game? Do you expect us to win the conference every other year if he comes to iowa state?

How common is it for children of the head coach to play for the head coaches team? Also I haven't seen it said here before, But Doug is probably the ace in the hole for Coach Mac. He is like a extra recruiter who is in contact with Barnes most of the time. That is a big advantage to ISU. I bet we have both of them on our roster.

What do you guys think?

Who? Doug????

Yeah, i was giving him a hard time after his quite radical post about his expectations a few days ago.

I missed his radical post amongst the constant "Mac isn't winning quick enough. We're an Elite program and he should have been dancing by last year...wahhhhh" threads.

I have heard they are friends and HB does visit Mac's house.

Marsden should've never been a major prospect. He never once dominated in high school and never showed any of the intangibles (ie toughness, agressiveness) to succeed at this level. Doug has had a better season than either of those two did at Ames.

I have actually heard the opposite. Not trying to spread rumors, but I've heard a lot of talk about how these two don't like each other.

Well you are spreading rumors because all I've ever heard is that they are. Not best buddies but friends nonetheless.

And a good majority if not all of your posts have had a negative tone to it, so i'll take yours with a huge grain of salt.

I've only heard through the grapevine. Was just wondering if anyone on here knew if there were any truth to it.

By all means, do take it with a grain of salt.
