Those of you that own house dogs, what are your feeling about sharing your bed at night with your dog(s)? Love it, like it, tolerate it or hate it? Do you allow it or not???

My wife and I own a 3 year old male Shih Tzu that is in most ways a great dog. He is cute, never has accidents in the house and has a wonderful temperment with the kids. He is amazingly dependent upon my wife and I however. He will follow us around the house from one room to another depending upon our movements and can rarely be in a room by himself. At night he practically beats us to the bed.

My feelings about him sharing our bed with us range anywhere from me really liking him there to me wishing that I could physically kick him off (the wife wouldn't allow that though) depending on the night. I think that the most amusing part about him sharing our bed is the fact that I will sometimes actually get jealous of him if I feel he is getting more attention from the wife than I am. Those are usually the times that I would like to kick him. Closing the bedroom door and leaving him in the hallway is never an option because he would just scratch at the door and bark/cry until we let him in, so I have to just accept him being in bed with us regardless of my mood on any given night.

What are your toughts on this hard hitting issue???

My dog sleeps in the bed. She wouldn't shut up when I first got her unless she was in bed and it has just gone on. Sometimes she sleeps on the couch or the floor though.

we allow it at times, but generally he sleeps on his dog bed at the foot of our bed. He's so huge it's hard to fit all of us in the bed.

Sorry - cat guy. And all 3 sleep with us. We would feel lonely without them. Unless we're making snugglebunnyburgers at which time they are not allowed to watch.

Two words: "Downstairs Kennel"

Our dogs would love to sleep with us, but we have them in kennels at night. They are 4 years old and still bark and cry about it for about 10 minutes when we go to bed. I am so thankful to have them 2 floors removed from us now that we have a baby. We'd be having beagle stew if they woke him up every night when we put them down

Our dog watches us do that at the end of the bed and then comes up to us IMMEDIATELY after we are done. At least he waits until we are done though!!!

Your dog is herding you. I watch my GF's Shelties quite a bit. They will rarely leave you alone, they don't bother you, but they hang around you. They think it is their job to herd things, it is instinct. Pretty cool actually. They snuggle at night some, but get too hot and usually sleep on the bathroom floor or against a wall. While not my first choice originally, I can highly recommend them now. Fantastic with kids, smart, and actually pretty good watch dogs.

My thoughts are, you guys obviously haven't been married very long if you get jealous of the dog getting more attention. Don't worry, in a couple of years you will be glad, because a man needs his sleep!

Depends where I end up, If I fall alsleep on the couch, Dogs in bed with Wife, If I get up and go to bed, dogs move to area on the floor....

You don't get it...I'm only asking for a minute and a half! Is that so much to ask?!

My boxer sleeps with my wife and I. I hated it at first but then we upgraded to a king size bed and now there is tons of room and he keeps me warm in the winter. He sleeps like a stone too so there isn't a whole lot of trouble with it.

Honestly if I really wanted to I'm sure we could train him to sleep on the floor but it really doesn't bother me anymore.
