Does the Coronavirus make Haliburton stay?

Look at what he did last year on Team USA. He was arguably one of their best players.
Surround him with high level talent and he looks like a top player.
We had no talent around him this year.

Granted, if we had players this year who could shoot straight he would have averaged something like 13 assists per game. How many times did he whip a pass to a wide open teammate only to have said teammate clang the shot off the rim?

I think it honestly strengthens his case to go pro because there won't be any flash in the pan hot streak player that played his way into the lottery because of a great NCAA tournament performance. This way the draft is set without as many surprises and as it is set currently he is a top pick. Coming back would not improve his position any more in the draft. In fact it would only hurt it.

**** if he had a big like Luka Garza who could hit 4 foot hook shots he would have had 13 assists a game.

This actually makes a lot of sense.

This only helps Tyrese, he is a good player right now but he's projected top 5 based on potential. Even if he was amazing at Portsmouth, he wouldn't jump above guys like Wiseman and Edwards (they are better combo's of size/skill/athleticism/potential), he just doesn't have much room above him. It'd essentially a lose/lose for him, especially with some potential rust to shake off from the injury. Idk if he'll be a top 5 pick but he's a top 7/8 pick or sure. I'm guessing he'll be the 2nd PG taken, behind Ball.

Duke wants another year for their seniors, so it will probably happen. It is a learning situation. Life isn't always fair.

If Tyrese goes top5/10, its quite possible that the first contract he signs will have more guaranteed money than niang, morris, thomas, burton, and nader....combined.

Based on what we return next year he would be a fool to come back. It’s not like he’s returning to a team with National Championship hopes...we’ll be hopeful to be a bubble team. We should be very happy for one of own to go on a be a lottery pick and make life changing money.
But if he did they could be pretty decent by tournament time.

I feel like there would need to be some type of limit. Say maybe add one scholarship per team(that can only be used on a super senior).

Then the 5th(or 6th) year seniors could choose to call it quits, come back again if offered, or grad transfer to another school.

A team like Iowa State with two seniors could choose to keep both(with Haliburton’s scholarship also available), or bring in another super senior since there would be teams who likely couldn’t retain all.

Just an idea, but I’d assume they are done.

AND the 2021 class is projected to be significantly better than this years. He could stay, improve significantly, and end up losing money as a much lower pick. He’s gotta go.

Those that don’t see him as a pro... I’m certainly not going to convince you, but you’re probably over-valuing lottery picks compared to how they have historically performed. And this year’s draft class is baaaaad. TH has plus height for a PG, plus athleticism, and an insane wingspan. Great feel for the game, makes others better, good shooter (and projects well based on FT %, usage, and reworked shot), and projects as a plus defender than can switch 1-4. He can help a team right away, in 3-5 years can absolutely be the PG on a championship team. Don’t think of his negatives now, think about what he’ll look like in 5-7 years. That’s why he’s getting drafted.

What if the NBA doesn't even have a draft this year? With all of the things that are happening, or more accurately NOT happening now, that I had previously considered as impossible, this is a real possibility.

that would be nuts, but kind of the road I was trying to lead down.

The problem is that every team has been assigning values to future picks based on that year’s class, potential timing of getting rid of 1-and-done, etc, and teams have traded picks all the way out to 2027 (I think). It would be a bigger hassle to postpone than to do a draft with no combine.

lol they will have a draft. Even if they didn’t finish this season, they would have a draft and free agency before the next season.
