Dodgers vs Cubbies

i understand you are a dodgers fan, but the cubs starting pitching is on fire and i fear for the dodgers. a sweep is imminent i think

If the Cubs starting pitching is on fire, the Dodgers starting pitching must really be on fire because their team ERA is 1.50 runs/game better over the last week (Dodgers: 3.02 Cubs 4.52) and 1.47 runs/game better in September (Dodgers 3.15 Cubs 4.62).

And good lord, if the Royals could keep that team ERA for an entire season :eek:

um actually yeah.. with the exception of zambranos last two starts the starting pitching has been great, but since they have only gone 5 innings cuz we already clinched it causes us to use up bullpen guys who arent going to be on the roster. gaudin coming back from injury, guzman from tommy john surgery, randy wells in AAA all year. these are guys who arent going to be near the post season........ it beats what those great yankees got for sure

But back to the topic at hand, the Dodgers still have a better ERA innings 1-6 than the Cubs do. I realize it isn't by much, but to say that's the Dodgers starters aren't also getting the job done is kinda hypocrisy.

Thankfully to the Yankees they can at least claim a world series title in the past 99 years...a little over 1/4 of 'em to be exact but that's not important in this series. I'm more than happy with them being 4th in the AL winning % wise after pulling starting pitchers outta the crowd.

A minor point - the Dodgers have been playing for something the last week or so, only 2 game win over the D-Backs. The Cubs have had it wrapped up for a little while.

Shouldn't affect the staff - but it obviously does. Most guys were just getting throws in, particularly when you see the bullpen by committee the last few days.

That being said. I agree with AnkenyCy24. Cub fans should know better than to think anything is a given.

When the playoffs roll around, nothing is a given, which is how in 1997, 2002, 2003, and 2004 wildcard teams won it all. I think the reason for that is how they've had to play to get in generally (the BoSox wrapped it up last week) is harder than other teams have had to play. I'll personally be interested in seeing how the Angels respond to playing meaningful games since they haven't played one since freaking July. :no:

Maybe - but getting swept by Az last year still has me a little scarred.

I don't pay attention much to baseball outside the NL Central. Just took a look yesterday at the AL teams and noticed that about the Angels. Won the division by 20 games?!?!. Good Lord.

Custer had a better run than the AL West this year.

So now you're changing the subject already because you got shot down so fast? If you're gonna spew unsupported statements, you'd better be ready for the winds of sensibility to blow them back in your face.

:biggrin::biggrin:

An example of rational thinking would/could be:

The Dodgers are playing the best baseball in the Majors since their acquisition of ManRam, but also have a lot of young, untested talent that may or may not rise to the occasion in the playoffs. They also have Rafael Furcal back, which gives them a real leadoff hitter for the first time in months.

The fact that they won their division, no matter how weak it was, after all the injuries they sustained should win Joe Torre every manager of the year award and scare the hell out of opponents. Plus, if I had to play the Cubs, I'd rather do it in the first round, which is a shortened series.

The ultimate question will be can Kemp, Kent, and Ethier get the job done when they walk Manny time and again. If they don't walk Manny, it'll be a moot point.

:yes::yes::yes:

Another thing to consider with those ERA's is the opponents that each team has played in September.

Cubs: Houston (5 games), Cincinnati (3 games), St. Louis (6 games), Milwaukee (6 games), New York Mets (3 games).

Dodgers: San Diego (9 games), Arizona (3 games), Colorado (3 games), Pittsburgh (4 games), San Francisco (6 games).

By looking at that, it's pretty obvious who should have better stats in every category.

Go Cubs Go!

I don't know if anyone told you, but the NL West is a hotbed for talent. They just have issues beating up on each other hence their bad records. :twitcy:
