MLB: Dodgers Put Lilly on Waivers

No surprise there. The Dodgers are as good as done.

Really? 4.5 games out of the wildcard. I know cubs fans aren't experienced with pennant and playoff races but at least try to fake it and know whats going on.

if a player gets claimed is his new team responsible to pay his entire salary or just the portion that the team that releases him is responsible for?

Teams can workout a trade, the team placing the player on waivers can release him outright, or they can take the player off waivers. Tuesday is the deadline.

If the team releases the player outright, the new team is required to pay what is left on the contract.

If they work out a trade, there could be a number of combinations.

When 24 of your remaining 34 games are against teams who are ahead of you in the wild card/divisional races, and there are 4 teams ahead of you in the wildcard, its not a bad idea to start dumping players who wont be around next year and start thinking about the future.

Its possible to make it happen, but the chances are definitely stacked against them.

I would love to have him land back in NY but it won't happen. Yanks starting pitching outside of Sabathia sucks right now.
Yankees problems =
Screw limiting Hughes by extra rest. Want to limit his innings, throw him 5 GOOD innings on normal rest instead of giving him an extra couple days. He's been given extra time before 3 starts, and gotten shelled in all 3.
Get Pettitte healthy.
Once Pettitte is healthy, Mitre starts for Burnett. Mitre at least MIGHT give you a chance to win a game.
Vazquez is pretty much the same story as Burnett.
CC has been excellent this season.
Right now, I'd rather see Nova/Mitre/Moseley over Burnett and Vazquez. Burnett/Vazquez against teams with a pulse = automatic loss.

Lastly, get A-Rod healthy. Cano looks awful hitting in the 4 spot. Its a shame they can't flip Jeter and Gardner.

Uh, that's probably a good thing they play so many games against teams ahead of them. The only way they are going to make up that ground is to beat teams in front of them in the standings.

Sorry cub fan. Your opinions about baseball are irrelevant.

The Dodgers are just fishing with Lilly and a number of other players to see what kind of offers might be out there. I'm guessing the Dodgers won't give up Lilly unless an incredible deal falls in their laps, and will try to sign him to a contract after this year. I believe Lilly is from the LA area and obviously loves pitching in Dodger stadium.
