Is anybody else having problems getting DTV? I can't get anything on certain channels and get the 771 message. I checked for ice and deiced everything, tried resetting the box, etc and no such luck. Sat 101 is fine but the others are having probs getting signals. I searched online and it seems like others across the country with no ice problems are also having the problem - most on the HR20/21 boxes.

Any problems on any of your DTV channels?

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

The evil empire back east may be affecting the signal in the West Des Moines area. Their AD was seen driving in the area recently with a big antenna on top of his Bartamobile. He had a big smirk on his face.

Ho Ho Ho.

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

All my channels seem to be working fine, but I do not get the new HD stuff.

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

I did notice this the other day when looking for info on DSM locals in HD...

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

Just talked to tech support - lots of probs in area - not sure if it's weather but most likely. Soonest technician can be here is on the 28th:no:

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

No issues on any of my channels, HD included.

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

That sucks. Must be a bad LNB from water getting in it and freezing or something. The roof is all ice so I could only get next to it on a ladder and it looked alright but obviously I wouldn't be able to tell if the LNB is bad.

Re: DirecTV gone kaput?

That is about the only remaining reason I am still with cable. The fact that the offices are local as well as the technicians.

Directv has local techs all over the place. One lives about 3 miles from me.

Do they just not have enough of them to take 2 weeks to be able to check out a problem? It makes sense that they have techs everywhere, independent contractors just like the cable installers probably. It just seems like I see more Comcast guys around the TC area then I do any of the dish/directTV guys.

Might just need to be re-aimed, if it's only on the Ka channels. The Ka beams are considerably smaller than the Ku beams. Ice could have affected the dish ever so slightly. Is it just HD channels that are having problems? And if so, which ones?

Just FYI, there isn't a "771" satellite or transponder, it's an error message when a tuner cannot pick up the signal for the selected channel. DirecTV has satellites at 101, 110 and 119 degrees in the Ku band, and 103 and 99 degrees in the Ka band. All of the new Hi-def channels (mpeg4) are on the 103 and 99 birds.

Maybe I am just lucky, but I had an issue with my service and got a guy out the next morning. Not only did he find the issue, he noticed that I needed the new dish and box to meet the new HD standards. So, instead of having me wait to get a refurbished box from Directv, he pulled a new dish and box off the truck and set me up. He then called into the tech support number and had it billed so I wasn't charged, otherwise I would have gotten a $75 fee on my next bill. Now I didn't know about how any of this worked and wouldn't have questioned the bill at all.

I love Directv. 1968 with Tom Brokaw looks awsome in HD.

Umm, why did my mediacom just go out 5 minutes ago? Nothing, nothing, nothing....

Sorry - I was dumb about the 771 signal - I meant message. I can get 101 fine and in the upper 80's but all of the other sats are having problems.

Either a bad LNB or a bad multiswitch. That would be my guess. Most likely a bad mulitswitch.

Strange. Is your dish pointing through any trees or anything by chance, that might have gotten coated in ice and might affect your signal?
