So 3 hours on the phone with DTV tonight and the 4 customer reps I talked to were unable to help. I have DTV now does anyone know what I need to get it while tailgating? I have an extra dish I will be using but do I need to get a special card for my genie?

You cant use any of your genies, you have to get a seperate hd box.

we switched to Dish a little easier to deal with but Directv has changed and not for the good since being bought out by ATT
Yeah no doubt about that. I have a tech coming today to install new equipment so hoping he will be able to help me out with getting setup with what I need.

I really appreciate Faye from DTV giving me the 800# to Winegard though. She was certain that they would be able to get me setup, sigh!!!!

Holy crap, didn't realize that hooking up the dish would be such a problem! Getting too hard with all the new stuff, and protections.

Has anyone tried streaming in the lots? I know there is no WiFi and LTE gets bogged down but I was thinking about trying the 3G band on Saturday.

I have a few years ago. It worked until there were a lot of people around. So streaming will probably be a no go for this Saturday.

I havent done it since that one time.

That was kind of what I was thinking. It is a long shot since I don't feel like buying a generator right now and portable power banks are somewhat cost prohibitive for the power draw of the TV anyway.

I have never used this but have seen a few you tube videos and people seem to think it's alright for what it is. Also a two stroke so make sure you mix some fuel before you head out if you get it.

I was looking at something along these lines as my other uses I will want extremely quiet of preferably silent (camping). This one would work but not for a full day of tailgating. The TV draw is 155W

edit: Stupid Amazon...Jackery E240

I use a winegard satellite but before that I use to use an extra direct tv satellite. I would just put it on the tripod and set it on top of my truck and point directly south then move it slightly towards the west and would get great signal, you need to use a hd receiver in order to access as genies will not work but you can just take one from your house if you have one already. If you ever look to go the winegard route you will need an H24 receiver for Direct. I have a Generac Generator I bought from Acme Tools which is very quiet and compatible with the Honda ones out there.

Just ordered the Dish Playmaker off of amazon and we're picking up the box tomorrow night.

Should just be a plug and play type deal if I'm correct? Anyone have any experience with it?

Funny you say this, cause I sold my tailgating rig earlier this year with the sat setup and have been helping the new buyer ever since with this. I would highly recommend order a box through Winegard. The reason I say that is, DTV is so stupid that they will send someone out to your house with the wrong box or tell you that it is not an option. They also tried to get the new buyer to setup a whole new acct. You will want to get the H24 box, as that sees both the 101 and 119 satellite. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask.

BTW - Someone had a Winegard autotunning sat on FB for $100. I would highly recommend spending the money and going that route. The nice thing is the Winegard sat that I have works for Bell, Dish and DTV, so if you change you are good to go.

Good luck!

Replying before reading all the replies so sorry for any duplication. The Genie requires a SWM dish and the power supply and a multiswitch so setting it up for a tailgate is probably not doable. Just bring a HD receiver instead of your Genie.

I don't believe this works well with Dish anymore. As far as just the standard Carryout model because Winegard detects the wrong coordinates for a satellite signal. It still works great with Direct Tv but you either need an H24 receiver ($140) on Winegards site or a SWM multiswitch kit which I would not recommend as its a pain to hook everything up and you have 100 different cables running everywhere.

I did last year a few times and seemed to work fine. I'm with US Cellular and they bring in that tower which seems to help with service.

Thought about doing it this weekend, but with the amount of people I'm worried.

We decided this morning to go with the Dish Tailgater and have a guaranteed picture for Gameday and the game itself.

I would go to satellite city and talk to them to see what your best option is.
