DickButkus passes away

I won't be ok until I can freely talk about **** on this site.
Haha, I think a lot of people would have been willing to make that timely pun. I suspect you among a select few other regulars wave that flag independent of this thread. FREE ****!

Passing of a legend always sucks. A Bears W would be the best way to commemorate one of the greats.

Bear Down.

Very sad. One of the greatest linebackers in NFL history.

Reminds me of something that happened to me probably 20 or so years ago.

My wife and I were walking through the Merle Hay Mall, which was pretty much deserted even way back then, and I spotted Gale Sayers sitting at a table in the middle of the mall with all kinds of Bears stuff waiting for him to autograph and sell.

Sayers was my absolute idol growing up and was the reason I became a life long Bears fan, so much to my wife's amazement I went nuts when I saw him. I ran over and shook his hand and started telling him how much I loved watching him, Piccolo, Buffone, Concannon, Douglas, etc...and I think I named nearly every player on the Bears 1969 roster.

After patiently listening to all my gushing, he just looked up at me from his seat and asked if I was going to buy something. My wife and I were young and pretty poor at that time, so I had to tell him no and leave. As I walked away, I'm pretty sure he was just shaking his head. So much for my brush with greatness.

About the 21:20 mark in this for some great highights.

And did anyone have NFL's Greatest Hits in the 80s?

I remember, as a young kid, being afraid of Butkus, just watching him play. Can’t imagine what it would’ve been like to actually play against him! RIP.

Nothing sadder in life than losing a childhood legend. It only brings reality to our limited time on earth and how important to value what you have when you have it.
