Ryan Dempster ruffled some feathers among Chicago Cubs fans with the way he withheld approval of a trade to Atlanta and ended up going to Texas, but the veteran pitcher made sure to show his appreciation on his way out of town.
Dempster took out a full-page ad in Friday's Chicago Tribune sports section, with the headline, "Thank You Chicagoland."
In the ad, Dempster -- who was roughed up by the Los Angeles Angels in his first Rangers outing Thursday -- thanks fans and extends "special thanks to the Ricketts family, the Chicago Cubs organization and my teammates -- past and present -- for their support over the years as a member of one of the greatest sports franchises in the world."
Could Dempster someday return to the Cubs? In closing, he writes, "Chicago has always been my kind of town."
