I know everyone hates the rash of decommits that have happened to ISU in the past couple of months, but, were not alone - this is an epidemic in college football.

Lets look at a couple of schools in particular:
Texas A&M - 9 de-commits
Oklahoma State - 5 de-commits
Miami 6 de-commits in the past 2.5 months
K-State -6 decommits

Except for Kstate, those other schools are in warm climates and name recognition to their programs and they're dealing with the same problems we're dealing with. I also think the notion of "If you take additional visits we will retract our schollie" is not a new methodology and in the list above both Texas A&M and Miami has retracted schollies from 4* athletes in the last month because they were looking.

I think in order to be fair to both sides, they need to agree to this prior to making that verbal. From the coaches side, if they get a verbal they reduce the recruiting at that position. A coach cannot hold that schollie until signing day when he knows that athlete is visiting other schools because he could drop them at the last minute and if thats done, the losing school is left to scramble for someone to fill that schollie and may take risks on development players or academic risks. For the player, he should be able to understand the university's position - Take all the visits you want, but, when your done and you've made the decision that ISU is the school for you, then if you take another visit we have to protect ourselves and release you from that commitment. How will Jared Edwards and Leonard Johnson be treated???

It will be interesting to see how the commits change over the next two weeks, hopefully in our favor!!!!!

if this is all true, i hope Chiz sticks to his guns and pulls it. to start looking 2 weeks before signing day is insulting.

I think a lot of this comes down to society anymore. It is kinda fun watching Friday night lights right now. Smash is trying to decide what school to go to, and there are lots of slimey recruiters running around trying to get him to verbal to them. His mom tells him to have ethics and be a man and do not commit until he is sure what he wants to do. And then commit to that program and stand behind the decision.

I don't think there are too many parents like Mrs Williams. I think a lot of them just let the kids do whatever they want. No one treats there words with honor anymore.

If I got my skivvies in a bunch over every ISU verbal commit that later changed his mind - I'd have a ton of knots in my drawers.

I'm kind of glad Lawrence Westbrook de-committed in Basketball now...he's not that great. Decommits in any sport really tick me off though.

I think in the past, recruiting info was not near as public as it is now, so decommits were never heard of.....do we really know if things have really changed or not? I'll get excited when a recruit actually hits campus and we start getting reports out of camp of what he is contributing to our program.

This is why I do not pay attention to recruiting. Until they show up, I don't want to think about it. I hate what if scenarios, let's just work with what we have.

Jared Edwards is now listed as a soft verbal along with Leonard Johnson. Johnson rated his visit to South Florida a 9 out of 10.

Makes me wonder if Chizik has told these guys that if they keep looking he might pull their scholarship offer. I like the idea of not being left hanging and being a fallback for these guys as they shop themselves around. Hope they have some guys under wraps.

One more thing, if we really want to see our recruiting class for the most part - at least to get excited about, look at last years class, those are the guys you will see on the field. Thats one thing that i think Chiz and his staff are executing "The building of a program" to perfection....there was a lot of excitement last year with his hire and everybody wants to win today. He didnt give into that knowing he would have to take some lumps to get to where we need to compete in the big 12 at the highest level. Bring in players and unless they're head and shoulders better then anyone on the depth chart, red shirt especially linemen both sides of the ball. Get their heads on straight, get those bodies bulked up with S&C and now lets see what we got for 4 years!!!!

Sidenote.....knowing several of these guys wanted to come in and play last year, i cant wait to hear about Black and Osemele collisions, i have a feeling those two will butt heads a bunch over the next 4 years......should be fun to watch them grow into dominant players....
