Big day for me and it had nothing to do with basketball

Can't compete with Knapp's day, but it was a top 3 day as a Cyclone fan for me, and a great bday.

I couldn’t attend the game as my sister was marrying my roommate (I know, makes me a bad chaperone!) and that was the night of the rehearsal dinner. There were 20+ of us all jammed in a hotel room watching the game. All Cyclone fans save one Hawkeye fan, but she didn’t like Jeff Moe so we let her stay! We had the tub full of ice and drinks. I feel sorry for any of the people in the adjacent rooms!

You'll appreciate this, being a fellow Jeff grad. We had a WSD concert that night. During a costume change I turned on the radio in the dressing room just as Lafester was going to the line for his final two shots. I missed the next song.

To me the most memorable games are the Uthoff 2nd half collapse at Hilton where we came from behind to win, going to Iowa City and spanking them (Niang blowing kisses to the crowd)..
That Iowa City game was pretty funny. The Hawk fan called the cops on BDJ and then Nader shoots lights out in his place.

I think the Jan 14, 1984 double OT win was the year that solidified my official Hok hatred. I was a Cyclone fan, but - up until that time - I could at least tolerate Iowa. My older brother was at ISU during this time. My cousins were die-hard Hok fans (Tavernhok/non-grads) & constantly berated all things ISU. After that win, all of them were making excuses for their beloved Hoks. To top it off, I had a classmate of mine call me up on the phone after their loss, just to tell me how lucky the Cyclones were. The condescension was unbearable (little did I know that it would be the prevailing attitude of Hok fans for the rest of my life).
