Death of the Big 12 - article

The refusal of the big schools to share revenue will lead to the death of the big12. Those very schools will be hurt more when they go to another conference that makes them share revenue.

woah, a big 10 blog that thinks big 12 schools would be foolish not to join their conference? haven't seen that one before

Lost of wishful thinking in that blog. Texas isn't leaving. Period. They want to be the kingpin, and that's what they are. On the field, the Big 12 has been respected from day 1, and as long as Texas stays here, it will be.

Could not agree more! I am in the camp that fears ISU could come out on the wrong end of conference "realignment"!

If there is a conference realignment ISU will be on the wrong side of it. IMO the B12 isn't going anywhere even if there are defections. It will simply add teams...

I told you guys I was a Cyclone fan...not my fault you didn't believe me.

Besides, Creighton doesn't have a football team.

Exactly. We aren't going to have 4 super conferences. Texas and OU will always have their own conference to be in charge of, and ISU will probably be in it. Even if Nebraska, Mizzou, and CU all leave.

Like it or not, a North school being poached by the Big 10 would be a major blow to the conference. Like the author said, at the least it would trigger a North/South division adjustment, because there just are no schools we could add to the North.

Having to play OU every year is better than being in the Mountain West.

I think one interesting thing is the poll at the bottom. It has well over 2,000 votes, even if they are from Big 10 people that is a lot. Nearly 50% think the Big 12 won't exist at all, and only 17% think it will stay as is. That is pretty telling of public perception of what is going on.

It still pisses me off that no one even mentions Iowa State.

Especially when you consider ISU being a Tier 1 research institution, which is a requirement for membership in the Big10, while I believe another institution often mentioned *cough Nebraska cough* still is not.

People often forget that part.
