Darks apology video

I don't blame him at all. I didn't see the original video. I don't want to. I said I was leaving last night as well, when I found out Chizik had interviewed, and I'm just a fan.

In the original two videos, they smiled and laughed a lot while they vented. It sounded like it could be serious, but it really looked like angry young guys trying to deal with their incredible shock.

Can somebody that is friends with him give us some info on what these video's actual say/said?

Or better yet, those of us who are not on facebook and are not going to sign up just for this. It would be interesting to hear what he said though.

I never blame the young for acting youthful. How would you react if you were him? Your coach preaches family, unity, and the first chance he has he bails on everybody. I think Darius is only 18 or 19, remember how we acted back then? How would you feel if the guy that got you to commit 4 or 5 years of your life to him snuck out of town on you?

I hope Darks and the other players realize how special a place ISU is, and how much we appreciate the effort they give for us on the field. If they stick around, and we actually do get the right person hired, Darius and the others could really be a part of something special. No need to transfer or sit-out.

I hope the players know we are behind them 100%. While we would understand if some choose to leave, they can count on our support if they stay.

I've watched all three. There are good summaries all over CF, and at this point he has taken the first two videos down, which is good for him and everybody else.

He was upset. He and his teammates feel lied to, since they were lied to. They were really bothered that this guy came into their living rooms and convinced them to uproot themselves to a place where they don't know anybody, and then bolted without saying a word.

He apologized in the last video, and really showed a good deal of maturity.

Does that help?

I'm a reporter for Iowa State Daily and interviewed Darks a few times. He was always nice and straight-forward in his response.
We wrote a story about his videos intially, and an update on his apology:

Of note: this is finals weekend at Iowa State. We had to send our finals week newspaper to the printer this afternoon.
All this put us in a tough spot, as we have final papers due and final tests to study for. So do all of the players.

I said earlier that most people I know that are twice the players' age don't respond better, and they certainly don't go back to the same group and apologize. That shows a lot more character than most people I've met.

I understand his first reaction. I was pissed like everybody else. I hope Darks stays just like the rest of our players. He will be a starter for us next year no matter who is our coach (hopefully Gill) if he stays. He also won't have to waste a year sitting somewhere else. Hang in there. Good luck with finals.

Thanks for the link, that clears up a lot. I was really wondering how the players were reacting to all of this, and that answers it. I think Darks had some stronger words for chizik than I have on here, and let's just say I've really been exercising the language filter. I just hope the players realize that we're all pissed at chizik too (well, almost all of us) and we (fans and players) want the same thing, which is for ISU to pull out of this and for chizik to fall flat on his face. The players that stay, can expect the same overwhelming treatment from Cyclone fans next year, at least the 40,000+ of us that were at the Misery game.

I should add that the same goes for SJ, LJ, AA, A-Rob, Bo, Benton, and everybody else. Hang together and we'll back you through anything. Go Cyclones!

I really hope he stays, I know it's hard being lied to, but sometimes you just have to tuff it out. Darks is a fantastic athlete and I think he'll do great things wherever he is, I just hope that place is home of the True and the Valiant, Iowa State.

That is the thing, this team was not far off this fall. I know we only won two games, but you get a coach that can adapt and understand weaknesses, and we could really have something. Chizik never adapted to not having enough talent at DT or safety, he just coached like he was still at Texas. Even though it wasn't working.

He did leave us some talent, our WR's are absolute studs, Darks really started playing ball down the stretch. Sure, he could leave to go somewhere and maybe have some success, or, he could stay here, be the man, and really provide some leadership. I hope he and the other players stay, at least I hope they wait for the hiring process to run its course and give the new coach a chance.

I know I"m preaching to the choir here but here I go. The players that continue to play for us have my undying support. Chizik just effed ALL of us, not just the team. I know you guys know him more personally that we do and feel more betrayed, but understand that every one of us feel hurt by this just as you do. We continue to stand behind you guys because you are our team.
