Two things for me. One: I wonder how this will look in the eyes of the powers that be, for the 4 game redshirt rule. While he is fine in the letter of the law, I just don't see this as something good for college football as a whole. What if you are ESPN and a league you have a big contract with has 4 or 5 teams in the league deciding to do this because their play-off picture isn't shaping up like they thought? What if it was Notre Dame that dropped a game to an early nobody, knowing they are probably out of the playoff hunt, decide to redshirt half the starting team? How is NBC going to feel about that?
I don't feel bad for the TV people, just worried that using the rule to this kind of extent, may one day take it back to the old red shirt rules. I like the way it is now.
Two: This can't be good for recruiting in the future can it? What if Dana says, "We'd love to have you, but we plan on redshirting you your freshman year." Does it creep into your mind that, "Well, what if he pulls this **** again when I'm a senior."
