Did anybody else run in this today? I thought it was a little weird that they had you put a "chip" on your shoe, but that it only registered when you crossed the finish line. Not when you crossed the starting line. Today was the first 5K I've run, and I got screwed at least 15-30 seconds on my final time, as I started about 1500-2500 people behind the starting line. So, I had walked/jogged at least 15-30 seconds before I could even get going.

A friend of mine and his wife thought it would be a good idea to lay back and wait a good couple of minutes to take off, so that they would be able to run more freely. He finished about 20 seconds behind me, although, it took him less than 2 minutes to run it. Is that normal for them to only time the finish, and not the beginning to end?

20k had the chip for the start and finish. The results show your chip time and gun time. My guess is they did that because it is a short race? Here is an email address from the website in the 'Contact Us' tab
For information, please email Lisa Kilian at [email protected]
Maybe send a suggestion about the chip timing to her?

I feel your pain, same thing happened to me at the Drake 8k, almost 1/2 mile into the race I passed a woman that weighed more then me which is saying something. (I am 204 right now) Her breathing almost sounded lik Fatty McGee.

It wasn't a big deal to me. My buddy that finished 20 seconds behind me that actually ran a couple of minutes faster may have something else to say. It doesn't help that I've razzed him endlessly that numbers and the internet don't lie when it comes to results. It's odd that they did it for the 20K and not the 5K. I wouldn't think that they'd have to do a whole lot more work if it's all electronic?
