As everyone knows, we need to develop a better D-Line to be more competitive. Outside of the QB, may be the most important players on the field. Just like the Offensive Line, the players need to get plenty of live action to improve. Although our OLine didn't have its best game today, they've been a pleasant surprise and its no surprise that 4/5 of the guys on it started as freshmen.

Just wondering if anybody has heard anything on the guys we have, maybe the guys redshirting etc. Lose our best DT and DE in Frere and Lyle so it may be a struggle...Who knows if Parker comes back with an injury RS, it'd help but who knows.

We return...

DE: Roosie Maggitt FR, heard a lot of good things about him coming into the season and was surprised when Neal got the starting nod after Parker got hurt
Patrick Neal SO, 6'0'' 227# without freak speed/athleticism, but he starts...and got PT last year at TE, his limitations hold him back but more power to him, making the most with what he's got, but I think we can do better
Cleyon Laing FR, gets spot playing time, new to the game and is bigger than most of our DTs, definite project
Aaron Moore FR, one of better rated recruits, got sick, redshirting

DT: Bailey Johnson JR, has taken over the NG position, played some as a frosh, missed all of last year, now back to playing, getting experience
Stephen Ruempolhamer SO, big underclassmen getting a lot of PT, will probably start opposite Johnson next year
Austin Alburtis JR, another guy in the current DT rotation, will play a big role next year no doubt
Jake McDonough FR, good to see Jake get his first playing time today, I think, has been sick and seems like a better strongside end prospect to me, but hopefully he can regain his lost weight and become a factor
Jerrod Black SO, has he been hurt? Would think he would be playing a larger role by now, don't think he's played a down all year.
Some guys RSing including big body Walter Woods and walk on Duane Hatfield

For commits we have Jensen at DT and maybe Howard at DE.

Anybody in the know have any insights on these guys? A solid DL would go a long, long way towards being able to compete against these elite QBs who seem to pick us apart.

I think Maggitt will be a very good player for us in a few years. Rump, Johnson and Albertis are a solid rotation. Outside of this I think it's a crap shoot. What we really need is few playmakers...guys that consistantly disrupt the offensive flow ala Reggie Hayward or Jason Berryman. I'm not sure we have anyone on our roster who has this ability...possibly Maggitt in a few years. I hope the staff can land some of their D-Line recuits...we really need an upgrade in speed an atheleticism. Hopefully we can find a juco or two that can help out right away while guys like Maggitt develop.

If Alburtis is a big part of next year, we are in a lot of trouble. He would have to improve an incredible amount just to be an average lineman, and that goes for the whole line. I wouldn't be totally heartbroken if we had 4 new linemen next year. No one this year has shown they can do much.

I also believe you forgot that Rashawn Parker will have a shot to return. God only knows how he'll recover however.

ISU needs to take a crap shoot on some JUCO DT's. ISU has not done a ton at the point of attack this season. ISU has not had a real pass rush AT ALL this season. Without help up front on D, the seasons are all going to be long.

Agreed.

We have little or no depth on the DL. Getting a couple of JUCO's here will help build depth and keep our DL fresh throughout each game. This is especially true when our offense is inept and not sustaining any drives.

Wayne Dorsey maybe???

Nope. He has visited Ole Miss and will be visiting North Carolina this weekend. He is also a December grad which means he will be signing with a team probably in the next 2-3 weeks. He is not visiting ISU. Would have been a huge commit for us.

Neal is not too far from RP as a freshmen. Needs to put some weight on but not far from where he needs to be.....

What year is Neal

Neal's a RS sophomore. I also think he grayshirted a year so this would be his 4th year out of high school. Played and got some time at TE last year, know he caught a TD against Mizzou, moved to LB in the spring and DE in the summer.
