quote from the daily from Cael

"He thought that Cyler would like “to go with usâ€￾ – a group he expects to include head assistants Casey Cunningham and Cody Sanderson – Cael’s oldest brother."

That is from the online text and I thought i read in the Daily that he said at "least one wrestler" would be going to Penn state and that was Cyler.

If Iowa State doesn't release him, I don't think Cyler will be going anywhere.

If I understand the rules correctly, if ISU doesn't release him, he will have to forfeit a year of eligibility in order to transfer. He is currently a Junior which means he only has a year left, making transferring impossible.

With that said, considering his relationship to Cael, ISU will likely release him, but I doubt anyone else will be released. Remember that we have a very heavy Junior class so I doubt we lose many.

He is the one guy I would release without restriction..... and also happens to be somewhat replaceable. Anyone else currently attending should be released if they want it, but with a restriction of no iowa, no B12 teams and no PSU. Oh, and no one except Cyler would get a release until AFTER the new coach is hired and has sufficient opportunity to re-recruit the current guys + recruits.

I thought athletes we pretty much free from their commitments when there's a coaching change? They still have to live up to transfer rules (sit a year, etc). But I'm not sure that they need any kind of release from ISU.

not to be "that guy" that says we dont want him anyway (because we definitely do) but per my sources,(cyler) sanderson is 1. good as gone, and 2. Nate Carr Jr. would give Cyler all he could handle in practices. Some think that Carr Jr. could very likely end up beating Cyler next year..

I aggree. Because it is his brother, I would let him go and not be too upset. But everyone else, NO WAY. You are here to wrestle for ISU. ISU already gave you tuition, wreslting, food, place to live.

*unless they want to pay it all back

I agree that we don't want to lose Cyler but if I had a choice between him and the other Juniors it would be him. I would love to see Cyler have a little loyalty to his teamates and school and say no to Cael. If he really wants to be like his brother than he will leave and not finish what he started.

The part that got me was when I read "at least one wrestler". Im worried about losing our younger guys that will be taking over after this years seniors.

With that said im curious to see what a coach that has had some coaching experience can with all the talent that we have in the room right now. Not knocking Bael he has the potential he just wasnt there yet.

the only way I really see cyler saying is if PSU's design program is just the absolute worst.

as far as kids leaving... I have heard some news but im not sure I want to spread rumors that may not be true, that could in the end somehow contribute to a kids decision to leave. But what I've heard is definitely not good news.

I'm more concerned that we will lose our recruits - particularly the 3 out of state.

David Taylor of Ohio - 4 time state champ, 180-2 career, I know some people considered him to be the top prep wrestler in the country.

Boaz Beard of Kansas - 4 time state champ, 110-2 career

Luke Macchiaroli of Arizona - 3 time state champ, 41-0 this year, 93-0 last 2 years

There are no transfer rules in wrestling (RE: sit out year). If you are released, you wrestle right away -- ala Duke Burk. Only recruits are given an out for a coaching change. All current guys on the squad would need a release or could transfer and sit out a year.

Ah - I didn't realize the rules are different between sports.

Thx.
