With season tickets sold out in FB, all but sold out in men's BB, both programs on the rise, and allmost all of our other sports teams fairing quite well...... Is it a golden age for the cyclones? I know we are not quite at the level we were in the early 2000's, but our success was kind of a flash in the pan.... Are we on path towards a more long term sustainable success?

Golden age of fan support no doubt. Let's just get some wins to follow that! A winning fb season would be amazing

I've been following ISU sports for over 40 years. This is easily the most promise I've seen and hope I've had, and not just for a glimpse, but for some sustained success. 2013 may not be pretty in football, but look out in 2014 and beyond. And basketball? Hoiberg will have a perennial national power at ISU.

It is certainly an interesting time. But ISU fans have been conditioned to wait for the other shoe to drop.

Comparing eras, though, I'd put a chunk of the '70s up against 1999-2002.
Football: First-ever bowl games (71, 72), new stadium (started construction in 73)
Basketball: new arena (71), a huge hire in Maury John (who unfortunately passed away too soon)
Wrestling: NCAA titles in 1970, 72 and 73 (runner-up in 71)
Men's gymnastics: NCAA titles in 1971, 73 and 74 (runner-up in 72)

Everything is shaping up for us to be entering it now.

Need to get some more W's, but everything else is in line for it

I think when you look back over Cyclone sports history you'll see that since Jamie P. arrived, we've never been set up better for success to consistently show its self on the field (football) and court (men's basketball).

We've had blips on the radar of college athletic accomplishment, but it's always fallen to pieces right in front of our eyes. This time around I think JP has laid the foundation for continued success as we head down the road. I think his coaching hires, facility improvements and the influx of cash from the restructuring of the BigXII are all swirling in a big Cyclone vortex of improved awesomeness.

I lived thru the 80s --"we're an academic institution, football is not important"
I was a student in the 90s -- "we got a tie! we're 0-10-1 ! yippie!"
I had tickets in the 00s -- "hey, we ****** the Big12 North away TWICE!"

With the solid commitment of building the program from the ground up, with the increased fan support including families and kids, with the university getting bigger every year, with the Big12 conference providing the cash to compete, and with the right young coaches in place...

Yes, we are on the verge of a Golden Age. Just gotta get some historical wins to reap the rewards.

Also, it has to be said this is really about Jamie Pollard and Greg Geoffery. To use a baseball analogy, they didn't try to win one year with a couple big free agents. They built a strong farm system that will keep ISU competitive for years. Leadership and individuals still matter in this world.

Are you ******* serious? We haven't had a winning football season in three God damned years and only one in the last six, we got smoked by Iowa in basketball and by most accounts are falling further behind, and rasslin the one staple of ISU athletics is a ******* dumpster fire. LOL. Golden age of athletics, what a bag of Derp.

"Golden Age" might be a bit premature but last season our football team went bowling, both our basketball teams and our volleyball team made it to NCAAs, our wrestling team had three AAs and finished 11th in the nation, and our Cross Country and track teams also had pretty great seasons. Hardly the dumpster fire you seem to think we are.

Fans have definitely stepped up, teams need to continue the progression. In the next few years - a ten plus win season in Football and an Elite 8/Final 4 would carry us to a level that would be out of this world.

I was able to get a ticket in section 20 (20 yard line lower level east side) for $100 and that included a parking pass about the middle of the parking lot of JT and Hilton in 2001. That would cost me a ton now. Heck, its $20 to park at Hilton for 1 game now. I think we are making progress......

Now, what worries me is if we go 4-8 this year. We (fans) have momentum. an 8-4 season would be stupid, but a losing season would bring us back a couple years

Back in the days golden age meant something. Is there anything more hypocritical than our fan base? We run a guy who rescued the program from a the black hole out of town despite taking us to bowl games in 5 out of 7 years. Flash forward about a decade and we got some idiot blathering abut us being in a golden age despite three straight losing seasons.
