I will be up in Minneapolis this weekend, looking for any recommendations for a place to have a few beverages and watch the game Saturday besides my hotel room.

Alumni website lists these

GAMEWATCH CYTE

Cyte #1: Darby's Pub & Grill
315 N. 5th Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55401

Cyte #2: Park Tavern - 11th Frame
3401 Louisiana Avenue
St. Louis Park, MN 55426

Cyte #3: Excelsior American Legion - Post 259
24450 Smithtown, MN 55331

Cyte #4: Fitz's Bar & Grill
3883 Cedar Grove Parkway
Eagan, MN 55122

For future reference: Darby's will be closing October 22nd.

Last email I saw didn't have the American Legion listed for the Kansas game - but you can't go wrong with Darby's.

Nice thing about Darby's is it is a short wallk from a light rail station. You don't have to drive in traffic if you've done too much celebrating.

This. Plus the game will be over before it gets dark and you can get back on the light rail and get out of there before it gets too sketchy. Until Minneapolis hires the 250 cops they lost 2 years ago, I'm steering clear of downtown.

I live DT. While it is an issue with MPD doing nothing, don't let this scare you. You'll be just fine.

If Darby's is Full like it was for the Iowa game by the time we got there, we went around the corner and down the street to Runyon's. Fantastic wings and they readily put the game on for us. Ended up meeting another couple there from Cedar Falls who's kid plays for UNI.

Yeah, as long as you aren't closing down the bars you should be fine. Personally I wouldn't be in some areas after bar closing, though. And as far as the cops go, I think they are doing all they can.

I live two blocks from Darby's. Feel free to 'steer clear' of downtown but it's not as bad as you want to make it.

Well, that sorta sucks about Darby's. Marcus, the owner, has been a good friend to the local ISUAA club and really good about hosting ISU gamewatches. He's sold the business and it will not reopen as a sports bar if what I am hearing is correct. Finding a replacement will be REALLY hard. Some people always complain about our gamewatch locales. The service isn't good enough, the TV aren't big enough, the sound isn't good, they don't like the food, and parking is so hard blah blah blah, rinse and repeat. Finding a bar BIG enough to host something like the Iowa game yet willing enough to put on the game for a dozen people for basketball isn't easy. Lots of bars already have a big affiliation with other sports fan groups and other activities scheduled that conflict with our games so are a no go.

Darby's won't be full, that's pretty much a phenomena of the Iowa game. I'd encourage peeps to go there till they close.

I seriously do love downtown Minneapolis. I won't go there at night anymore. It didn't help that recently some kid got shot and killed at the light rail station near nicollet at 5 pm on a weekday. From what I heard, the kid got mouthy with someone and got shot for it. Thankfully they caught the guy that killed him.

Not trying to dog on the city, and I know the cops that are still there are doing great work. I'm not going near there until it gets under control. (Hire more cops).

Not Minneapolis related, but have worked through that in multiple cities trying to get gamewatch locations off the ground. First in Columbus, and now a new location in the Chicago suburbs, it is always difficult trying to make new headways with an unfamiliar location, especially if there is not a super-consistent draw. What will get these places to dedicate staff and space week after week? People showing up. Good luck to you all finding a new home.

Only warning, if anyone goes political on this regarding Mpls they will earn a timeout, not exceptions. You can start a Cave thread if you want to discuss policing and crime in Mpls.

Since Darby's has closed, where is a good place to watch the Cyclones in Minneapolis now? Going to be in the Twin Cities for the Northern Iowa game.
