MLB: Cubs trade DeRosa to Indians

Most valuable guy on the team last year. With him and Marquis being traded it makes me think they are trying to stock up on some prospects to send to San Diego.

Looks like they picked up Aaron Miles too. Nice utility guy, but it seemed like his production dropped after the move to St. Louis. Switch hitter so it adds a left handed bat.

The Cubs get Jeff Stevens, Chris Archer, and John Gaub. Stevens and Archer are non prospects and Gaub is intriguing, puts up some decent numbers, looks like a late releif prospect.

Great - losing DeRosa means that this guy is the 1st option off the bench if Fontenot gets hurt. The Cubs lose the most valuable guy on the team for prospects for a guy who once threw the ball to the ump because it was wet.

these trades set up many good things for the cubs

1. Free salary to get Milton Bradley who is one of the best switch hitters in baseball
2. Allows Mike Fontenot to play everyday at 2B. He is a great player, a lefty, and with more at-bats will put up huge numbers
3. Stockpiles prospects to make a play for Jake Peavy or another player in a trade

...if these guys arent used for trades, it just shows the cubs realizing they need to reload the farm system.

This was a stupid trade what the cubs don't need are three AAA pitchers we need a second baseman so unless this is the beginning of giving baltimore the prospects the want in return for Brian Roberts the cubs screwed up big!

Not a fan of this trade at all. Dont care about giving up Jason, but getting rid of Mark is a mistake.

Replacing DeRosa with Miles is terrible, but this has all the makings of a salary dump. Assuming they manage to dump Marquis on the Rockies, the Cubs will clear 8 million off the books.

I just threw up. Why in the world would the Cubs get rid of the ONLY guy on the entire roster who showed up ready to play in the post season? DeRosa held the club together during all the injuries that hit the team last season and is probably the reason they won the division.

If you wanted to trade someone, trade Derek Lee while he still has some value.

I can't imagine that a lot of teams would be willing to take on that contract.
