MLB: Cubs send Hill to Orioles

Man, did this guy crash and burn. In 2007 he was 11-8 with a 3.92 ERA, and everything was looking up. Turn the calendar to 2008 and he couldn't find the strikezone. He spent the season being demoted step-by-step all the way down to rookie ball. Now it's 2009 and he's being traded for a PTBNL. Amazing collapse.

At this point, a player to be named later can't be any worse than Hill has been...

I think the PTBN is going to be contingent on how he does in 2009 is what I've been reading. If he flops then probably going to be some minor prospect. If he turns out to be a servicable starter in the rotation someone of more value will be sent to the Cubs.

I hate to see a player dive bomb like he has. Hopefully he is one of those "change of scenery" guys and goes to Baltimore and get things turned around.

The Cubs also sent Wuertz to the A's for a couple guys who will likely fill a minor league roster for the rest of their careers.

The Cubs really had no choice. They had to trade him or put him on the Major League roster as he was out of options... To get anything at all in return is a bonus.

i dont get why you started a thread that says rich hill got chizzed... how so? he sucked *** and the cubs were looking to get rid of him. he knew that, fans knew it, it was pretty obvious lol.

it sucks that he crashed after one good year, but this guy all of a sudden turned to garbage. he couldnt get guys out in AAA, in Mesa extended spring training or in venezuela ball.... dont know what happened

The Cubs did him a favor by trading him. At least now he has a CHANCE to make the majors again...

also note that the cubs traded micheal wuertz for a couple minor leaguers from the A's... OF Rich Robnett a former first-round pick in 2004 who has only hit .256 in the minor leagues, and IF Justin Sellers who can play both SS and 2B... not sure what that does for us unless we are just getting more guys for the minor league rosters

It was either get something out of Hill and Wuertz now or loose them on waivers after spring training. The PTBNL for Hill might end up being a bucket of balls if he doesn't make the O's rotation.

Orioles manager Dave Trembley said he will meet with president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail on Friday in Boston to discuss the status of struggling pitcher Rich Hill. With a day off today before beginning a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles could skip Hill's next turn in the rotation or they could make a more drastic move and release the pitcher or designate him for assignment. Even Hill, who has a 7.64 ERA after 12 starts, acknowledged that the "writing is on the wall." -- Baltimore Sun

Jeesh - I read the headline without checking the date and thought this was going to be about Koyie Hill.

It's a shame. You know the physical talent is there, but something in his head just isn't right.
