No dog in this fight...but why get over it? An agreement is an agreement. If the Cubs want TL then pay up. It does kind of suck though to think that the Red Sox might be limiting their employee in landing a promotion and a good gig.
That's why it's a **** move by the Red Sox. The only person they are hurting is Lovullo
Also, Luvullo wasn't even a member of the Red Sox when Theo left, so how could he possibly be covered under any deal that was made then? Are the Cubs never again allowed to hire anyone from Boston?
So why even make that agreement? The Cubs willingly entered into the agreement so why would they think it should be tossed aside? Oh yeah...if you believe some in the media the Cubs don't think past agreements/contracts matter (signage/rooftop neighbors).
I am not a fan of either team but this isn't about anything other than the Red Sox getting something out of this...a minor league player or some cash...exactly the same things that Cubs would be expecting if the situation was opposite.
If the deal has teeth and I'm the Cubs, it's time to move on and let the Red Sox **** in the wind. They already have some good prospects to take over the coaching job.
Agree...I am not sure why the Cubs would even get into this mess...is TL the guy they have really zeroed in on as the next manager? It appears the Cubs aren't sure about who or what they want in their next hire...or if they are sure they can't find someone who fill those needs? It has been a strange story to follow since Sveum's departure.
Yeah they certainly have taken their time. In their defense, hiring a manager is an important thing that you have to live with for years so why not do your due diligence and find out if anybody has some skeletons in the closet? The Cubs appear to be in for a long rebuild. I think they're doing it right, but the next manager might not survive a couple more losing seasons either.
My guess is they're looking to hire someone with some familiarity with using sabermetric stats in the gameplan, which is why the people you see that the Cubs are looking at come from those kinds of organizations.
