Didn't get the betting thread up in time, so we can chat here.

D-Lee puts the Cubs up 1-0 with a huge bomb, but a walk and infield hit to start the bottom of the first have put the Pad's in position to score...

From the Cubs facebook page...kinda funny...

Traffic cops apparently are on on the lookout for jaywalking Chicago baseball officials. Lou Piniella was stopped by a San Diego police officer Tuesday and issued a warning for jaywalking. The Cubs manager said he had finished lunch, and was walking between Fifth and Sixth Streets in the Gaslamp District, talking to his son on the phone and looking for someplace to get his hair trimmed. He heard a police siren, saw the motorcycle and tried to get out of the way. That's when he discovered the cop was after him.

"I thought they were after somebody and it was me," Piniella said.

The police officer apparently didn't recognize Piniella, who was issued a warning. He got off much easier than White Sox GM Kenny Williams who was stopped Aug. 10 in Seattle for illegally crossing a street away from a crosswalk outside Safeco Field. Williams was on his cell phone after exiting a cab and on his way into the stadium. A traffic control officer stopped Williams and wrote him a $56 ticket.

"I took my warning and went on my merry way," Piniella said. "When I heard the siren, I thought, 'I wonder who he's after,'" Piniella said. "I told my son, 'I've got to call you back. I got stopped for jaywalking.'"

The wheels have come off. I don't think we'll make up 6 games on the Cardinals in September.

The way they're playing right now, they'll be fighting the Reds for 5th place. 11 games ago (counting tonight), this team was tied for 1st and two games up in the loss column.

Cubs have lost 9 of their last 12 games with the 3 wins coming against the lowly Pirates. I'd say it's time to stick a fork in this team because they are playing like they are done.

the cubs have played the regular season this year much like the postseason the past two years. they swing at pitches 10 feet in front of the plate in the dirt, and stare at pitches right down the middle. another thing, what is with all the rediculous home run swings? they are doing nothing but trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark. when they scored 17 against the pirates they did something amazing, they went away with pitches that were away, up the middle with pitches down the pipe, and turned on the inside pitches. what a concept! and the next day they tried to hit 27 home runs. it's sad, and i have given up. at least my birthday on oct 4 won't be a disappointment cause the cubs won't be in the playoffs anyway.
