About to pull within 1 game of the Brew Crew.

Cubs after losing this game tonight will be 8-9 in the month of July. I was hoping it was just a few game skid, but this entire month has been rough.

Getting killed tonight as of the 7th. 5-1.

We need Soriano back. Fukudome is looking average at best lately (batting around .275 with 6 HRs on the yr), Lee is cold, Wood is hurt.

Please catch fire soon. I don't feel like playing catch up all year.

You are right about this... The only thing that keeps me from going into to total meltdown is that most of these losses have been on the road.

If we can keep up the home record we will make the playoffs. However, to win in the playoffs you have to win some on the road... So that does worry me too.

This is pathetic. I had to shut it off because I knew everything that happens from here on out will only make me mad. They might as well forfeit the rest of this game and tomorrow's game and fly home now to get some rest.

Best record in the NL, second best in the entire league....

Hmmmm

Get over yourselves.

Yes, you are correct. But really there is some concern for a team that is 8-9 on the month and about to be 1-5 in their last 6 games.

I'm not a Cubs fan, but that's why they play 162, fellas.

The 2005 White Sox lost 7 in a row at one point and let a 15 game lead get down to 1.5. It worked out for them.

What do you mean you "don't want to play catch up all year"? Everyone has been playing catch up TO THE CUBS all year.

I think the bullpen gives a little reason to be concerned, but they have the offense and they have the rotation. Barring injury, they'll be right there.

Nobody wants to be playing catch up for the rest of the season after the start the Cubs had.

I really think that missing Soriano was HUGE. Thats a lot of RBIs/HRs out of the lineup.

It's just flat out STUNNING how miserable this team is on the road.

And actually, that's limited pretty much to the offense. Tonight has been, more or less, the exception in the pitching dept. I think the first half of the season showed a starter ERA of only about .5 worse on the road than at home. But like .075 pts worse batting average. And runs per game was through the floor.

That final series against the Brewers could be interesting, to say the least. Of course it's on the road......

In the Cubs last 30 games they are

13-17 ..... that to me is enough reason for SOME concern.

Meanwhile, down on the farm...

I-Cubs led Tucson 4-1, middle of the 9th. Estrada (who?) gives up 3 singles against just 1 out, leaves with a 4-2 lead and 2 on. Wuertz comes in, strikes the first guy out, then goes: walk, wild pitch, 2-run single, strikeout. And all 3 runs in the inning are charged to Estrada.

4-4, top 10

The Cubs are still in first place. It could be worse. You could be the Cardinals, who started the week in second place and 2 games back, but have blown 8th inning leads both Monday and Tuesday to lose winnable games to the Brewers. Now Milwaukee is in second place and St. Louis is in third. Biggest series of the season so far for St. Louis and they are letting it dribble down their legs.

Cards have done nothing on the trade market to answer Milwaukee and Chicago. I suspect you Cubs fans will have only the Brewers to worry about come September.

Right now they can't hit the broad side of a barn. Hopefully getting Soriano back will give these guys a little kick in the pants to get going. not to mention seeing the Brew Crew lurking 1 game back.
